animated gif images on screen causing noise in my studio monitors!

animated gifs (like the ads at the top of the screen here on the site) are causing distortion/noise to come through my Tannoys even with the volume turned all the way down...if I crank up the volume the level of noise does not change...and the distortion (buzzing, crakling) only happens as the image moves...when it stops, the noise stops. The sound is not in my headphones connected to my RME multiface and this has not happened before. Weird. Any ideas?

I've noticed that if I have a cable near my computer (video card/PCI-X card especially) I'll get weird noises. I mostly notice it if a microphone cable is in close proximity, but I'd bet other cable would pick that kind of stuff up. Try getting all the audio cables as far from the CPU as possible.

I don't usually use my DAW on the web, but we gave most of our computers away to the hurricane relief auction, and I haven't had any pro.....

I've noticed that, in addition, when I grab the explorer scroll bar with the mouse and move it around the same noise is created. I have all cables as far from the comp. as I can get them. I don't recall having this problem before at all. It'll probably take me a month to track it down and then it'll be something really dumb!

thanks!

Do you use onboard graphics? If you're on a desktop computer, then get a cheap graphics card. If on a laptop :-( Allways make sure that laptops for music has a seperate graphics module with its own memory.

Onboard graphics cannot be recommended for serious computers. Omboard graphics uses CPU and Ram ressources and can cause spikes and other nasties.

yeah, it is built-in graphics card.

this is on a HP, two years old. My last HP worked great with no such problem and this one has just developed this weirdness. I noticed that every damn thing I do now makes noise in the speakers. Outlook, etc...

I'll try a new video card for starters since moving stuff around isn't getting it done.

thanks

Your headphones are cool, so I have to ask...
Are you using balanced speaker cables?

Speaker cables aren't balanced. It's two wires. Speakers are A/C devices.

You dont use sheilded or balanced line level cable.

It's a PSU problem in the computer, a well known hardware fault. You should get it replaced ASAP.

you use balanced cables with my monitors -- tannoy reveal actives. they have xlr combo jacks; they're hooked up exactly according to the manual.
