I went with the Precision EQ, which sounds good, but is mainly for mastering. It doesn't really suit my needs, I should have gone with the Cambridge.

If you already have the cambridge, the you're set for surgical all purpose EQ.

My favorites for more colorful eqs are the Neve 1081 and the Pultec Pro, with the pultec being my favorite. Take the top end and boost and attenuate at the same time and you can really open up and colour a track in a very pleasant way. Just an amazing plug. Narrow Q and 16k boost is magic ofr the air band.

neve 1073 Only one I coudn't get close to with the uad stock eq, which is really good. Rest of it (filters) is covered by the cambridge.

Just pick one and keep moving. You'll own them all eventually.

I went back and forth, and finally bought the Harrison over the Neve. Just like the way it sounds on rock guitar.

I probably have tin ears. The wisdom of the Slutz is the Neve 1073/81.

If you already have the 1081, the 1073 would be an excellent pick up (use them both together as they each compliment each other well like how the two Pultec EQs make the Pultec "Pro").

A Pultec/PultecPro is a MUST, but I would take a deeper look into the Neve 88RS - which is on sale this month - where you get a super smooth and musical EQ that still sounds good on +12 dB, a gate that doesn't get any better than this and a very cool compressor in one great package.

already owning the 1081 u would suggest the 1073?? i thought about it but alot of people that own the 1073 say they wish they could just trade it in for the 31102.

Hm, to each their own but I think the 31102 is a different beast. I bought it because I love the way it has this sort of clean sound that is (to my ears) similar to the sound of the EQ in the 88RS, but the 1073 (not talking about the SE version), I need to have that on my drum tracks.

To be specific as to why I said it compliments the 1081:

1073's high shelf is fixed @ 12k
1081's high band is 3.3k, 4.7k, 6.9k, 10k, 15k

1073's mid band is 36, 70, 1.6k, 3.2k, 4.8k, 7.2k
1081's mid band is 1.5k, 1.9k, 2.2k, 2.7k, 3.3k, 3.9k, 4.7k, 5.6k, 6.9k, 9.2k

1073's low band is 35, 60, 110, 220
1081's low band is 33, 56, 100, 190, 330

This allows you to have the character that both of them have (1073 having something I haven't heard in a plugin EQ yet and the 1081 having a more "polite" character) and a combination of frequencies to get at things you can't if you use one of them by themselves. Most of my drum mixes have both of these (not the SE versions, which are useful too, don't get me wrong) but I don't think I will be replacing this combination with the 31102, which I do like a lot as well!
