Thread Starter | Win 7 /XP dual boot system hangs on shut down when in Win 7
I've just spent 5 days converting my DAW from XP Pro 32 to a dual boot XP Pro 32/Win 7 64 (running in 32 bit mode). I have a hang problem at shutdown. When in XP it shuts down fine but when in Win 7 it partially gets there, monitors go off etc, but fans etc continue and I have to either down a hard shut down and risk corruption or use the restart option, get into XP and do a shut down from there. I tried doing an Update install from my Win 7 disk and afterwards it shut down normally the first time and then on subsequent occasions it reverted to it's old behaviour. Any ideas?

I'm doing the transfer slog to W7-64 too... what a job! I'm actually triple booting with XP and Vista and everything shuts down fine, and none as fast as W7. In fact it's my XP that has a slower shutdown. Have you installed all your chipset drivers off the CD that came with your motherboard? Or updated them to latest W7 compatible versions? Sounds like maybe W7 doesn't know HOW to shut down which points to some driver problem.
