Question Controlling a macintosh from 2 places.

I want to be able to control my macintosh G5 wich is in the machine room from two different places. In the project and in the big studio. Both are about 10-15 meters from the mac away. I also want to be able to connect a firewire drive in both studios. Is this possible? And how?
thanx.
Tim.

lets see.. if im understanding you correctly..

I use VNC from a laptop in the live room to control my mac in the machine room..

So i can basiaclly record me playing drums by myself.. I am controlling my pro tools rig from next to the drum set via my laptop..

Is that what you want to do?

cheap and easy, but both are active at the same time:
Dual monitor card, extend monitor to both stations and run mirrored displays, along with USB extension unless you're using a powered extender which runs usb down the line like one the ADC connector and using a DR. Bott pro to extend. But realize both keyboards, monitors and mouses (don't get me started w/ mice - it's not a species, and it's a row of houses on a street, nit a row of hice) sorry, I digress. Just be aware that if you have a kbd and mouse in both rooms, someone can f* with you by playing with the mouse in the other room - my personal favorite pastime to annoy the assistants after the session when I'm waiting on them.
As for FW, I'd keep th drives at the computer, but you can get a FW hub and extend from there also.
just my 2 cents, but when I get a penny for my thoughts, someone's getting that extra penny

So, it's possible to run usb over this distance? What about the monitor cables?
I have two screens so the mirrored displays are not an option.
I have used VNC before, but its pretty slow on the pc's I've used. Or is it my fault?

sounds like...

time to play producer and hire an assistant stay in the machine room swapping cables.... buy a 2way radio so you can stay in your chair.

they used to make a switchbox for this purpose but it cost almost as much as another mac, so you may not like that solution either.

u can still do this, but it starts to cost more. you can try splitting the video out passively, or you can run a dist. amp for the video, this way you can keep the 2 monitors in the CR and have 1 or 2 ion the other room. You;ll need a powered USB extender for that distance. I think the Icron has one that runs w/ poer at either end, so you can power from the computer end only and just run cat5 out to where you want it
whatever you do, don't mention gefen to me.
