Cool NEW DELL MULTITOUCH SCREEN!!! practical???

Hi all,
so i was just browsing the internet and i came across this, DELL DellÂ* SX2210T 21.5"W Multi-Touch Monitor with Webcam : Dell Monitors: LCD Flat Panel Monitors & Widescreen Display | Dell United Kingdom so could this be the next touch screen controller?? i'm not sure if snow leopard supports multi touch? and would it work with logic?, im just thinking this would make automation slightly easier as opposed to click..click....click...etc.

Thanks all
Alex

Very interested in this monitor. Thinking about eventually having two of these side by side in a wooden slanted rack to get them on an angle so have monitors above, regular monitor above, controller and keyboard and mouse infront of the angled touchscreens with would be used to mix and edit with certain functions.

It really depends on how well the screen takes to Pro Tools.

You can only use two fingers according to the people at SOS forum. Still, for the price it may be a nice option.

only windows 7 supports touchscreens currently although there are rumors about an apple tablet that will have it. Here is a good demo:

For the life of me I don't understand WHY they always have to put crappy cameras in everything from TVs, cell phones to computer monitors these days. Most people don't take pictures or do video conferencing on a level to warrant such infiltration of these devices.

Very cool monitor though, wish it was sans camera and would probably be $75 less.

I've never used a touch monitor in the studio. And, even though I can imagine some benefit, I keep wondering if there aren't serious ergonomic issues not realized by those of us who haven't yet tried to work long hours on this new technology.

Compared to mousing for hours? I think it would solve some ergonomic issues

I think, for real touch control we're probably going to have to change the way we deal with monitors on our desks and work surfaces. It's one thing if you just use it occasionally -- but clearly, if one is going to control the system primarily through touch screen, we're going to have to lay the monitor down with a work surface angle similar to many mixing boards.

Once again, I'm only speculating- but with a trackball (which is what I use) my hand and arm is mostly stationary and comfortable. It seems with a touch display, there would be no way I could even approach comfort unless the screen was horizontal, because with as many functions as I perform even within a short period of time, I'm quite sure my arms would get tired. Yet, then you have all sorts of issues arise like, where to rest your arms...? Does this mean your neck will now be at long term risk because your head is tilted more down? etc.

I think it will take actual usage to come to terms with what the real concerns are.

I have thought about these at length...

if they came out with larger sizes.... perhaps 27" or 30" I would sell my control 24 an get 2 of them. I would build a custom desk and mount them sideways at an angle..

tell ya what, i got de wife the gateway touchscreen all in one puter for xmas and that thing is great.

seriously, using a finger to run up and down a page or stab links or controls on a page is quickly addicting and useful. after a week, she went to work at a library where she volunteers; they had some new macs and she automatically went to scroll the screen with her finger because it was so natural to her. of course the mac didn't respond and she had to grab the mouse. this is not a mac bash, it's a real life demonstration of how good a well implemented touch screen control can be. you get accustomed to it.

go to a puter store and play with the gateway or hp puters that have that.
