Thread Starter | HD 192 I/O sound... or dumb digital question last night we finished mixing audio for a grueling documentary film project that was more corrective surgery than mixing, but that's another story. mixed the final stereo file back into PT (no bounce to disk), going through a fatso (inserted in the master fader) -- when i compared the recorded file to the input, i was surprised to find that the sound was very different - 2 dimensional, a little hyped in the high mids and the 'air' was gone. question is, how can this be if the same DA converters were used to monitor the 'input' as the recorded track? the chain was: ITB mix to mstr fader>fatso on insert>DA>monitor system. the difference was noteworthy. 192s (digi interface) are supposed to be a little hyped in the high mids, but the recorded stereo track and the input material are going through the same chain, so how can there be any difference at all? thank you. |

| Did you dither the files differently? Dithering sometimes sounds very high freq hyped to me. |

to A/B the two i just put the recorded channel on input, so i could hear the original source - when taken out of input i could hear what was recorded. i was very surprised to hear such a difference. further comments would be appreciated. just realized the heading is '192 sound' - was referring to HD192 interface, not the sampling freq - sorry - will try to fix that now. | |

Thread Starter | no! but AFAIK there's no sample rate conversion going on at all, is there? recorded @ 96, no dither, no bounce to disk. recorded to a new stereo track. sounds like i'm missing something from your question... thanks for answering sir but please explain. |

| Only leave the SRC on if you need it, otherwise turn it off. It does something with the sound of my setup, regardless of sample rate. Some sort of "frequency listening" going on, maybe? I use external sync BTW, Big Ben. With BB, I'm quite happy with the sound of my 192. ruudman |
