Thread Starter | ADAT transfers
I have some music on old ADAT tapes. Some 16 bit, some 20 bit. I'm looking to transfer everything to DVDs. I have a Protools system digi 002. It has a lightpipe input. Can someone recommend the best way to conduct this transfer? I'll have to buy the ADAT machines so which would you recommned? Has anyone done this before?

Yup and it's actually pretty simple. Go to Ebay and buy an LX20...since you only need Lightpipe it'll work just fine. Or, spend a couple bucks more and get an XT20 so you get balanced analog I/O. Those coverters are at least the same kinda quality as the ones on the 002 so if you need another eight channels it's a good way to go. Connect the lightpipe out of the Adat to lightpipe in on the 002, setup a new session...press record on the 002 and play on the Adat, It's not exactly brain surgery. It's just goze inta's and goze outta's.

just a thing: For lightpipe toslink transfers: In the 001 days you must have both the lightpipe in AND the lightpipe out connected to get the best sync. not sure if that has changed with the 002 002R You also need to have the adat be the clock master via optical in the pt settings to transfer in, if you ever transfer out to adat you need pt to be the master and have the adat lock to the pt clock. make sure your clock rates match 48K or 44.1. |
