| All, 24 Bit Truncation With Pro Tools|HD Hardware Driven By Logic Pro On Channel Inserts ? Is This The Case When Using Logic Pro Software With Pro Tools|HD Hardware. I Know That Pro Tools|HD Truncates The Outputs Of Every Plug-In In The Insert Section (Last I Heard). But Does This Same Truncation Occur In The Insert Section When Logic Pro Is Used To Control Pro Tools|HD Hardware Core, Process Cards, & The TDM Bus? Rob G.. ![]() |

| Logic is 32 bit float right? I assume there will be truncation with 24 bit hardware, going from 32 bit to 24, but 48 bit? Dunno. Anyway I can say I hear truncation happening with other 24 bit hardware and 32 bit hosts, inserting a dither plug-in such as L1 or L2 seems to help, though. |

| Last I heard Digi was dithering on the inserts but I'm not sure as the topic seemed to disappear with HD. |

| All, I mean dithering in the the inserts section specifically. Say you have a 24 bit signal coming into the insert section of Pro Tools|HD. And you have one, or more plug-ins that process at a higher bit rate. Before they are sent out of the respective insert section the signal is truncated down to 24 bit. To my understanding in Logic Pro this is does'nt happen until you initiate dither at the very end of your final mix down signal chain, or the signal is finally output in the place where you monitor your signal. I was wondering if Logic Pro controlling this aleviate's the Pro Tools|HD form of truncating dither that is supposedly the default in Pro Tools|HD software/hardware processing. I mean you can initiate more plug-ins in Logic Pro than in Pro Tool|HD. So I was wondering if the improvement was there in processing as the raw signal. Rob G.. ![]() |

| I think most plug-ins that operate at higher internal bit depths than the host software have internal dither. 64 bits are being dithered down to 32 bits. 48 bit plugs within 48 bit hosts will have no need for dither. 48 bit plug ins will output 48 bits that will be truncated down to 32 bits, if the host software is 32 bit floating point.
