Protools stuck/permanent pre-roll?

So I must have hit the wrong combo of keys because some how my playback always starts
like one beat early (if i select the start point 12|1|000 it will automatically start the playback at 11|4|000) pre-roll is off and it is really annoying, anybody have any Idea of what it could be?

Check your metronome settings. Don't have PT in front of me so can't be more specific.

In preferences - there's a count in option.

That would explain a delayed start, but wouldn't give it a pre-roll.

i was thinking of the click/countoff settings under options, but that only has the lowest option of 1 bar, not 1 beat.

is it actually playing a beat of the music, or just delaying playback for about a beat?

the cursor does run a bit before normally, but it should only play from the point you select.

Could you have enabled dynamic transport by chance? Do you see a cyan
blue arrow in the ruler?

it does start playing from the correct point. So I guess its just the cursor running a bit before I never noticed that before I always figured it started playing exactly(100% exactly) from the time i hit the spacebar, learn something new i guess.

I've seen this before, in TDM.

If none of the above helps, then:

Dump all Digi related prefs, including the DAE & the ones that start with "com."

Dump all the "Digidesign Databases" folders off your audio drives.

Re-boot, then re-launch.

If you still have problems, do a full Protools de-install (save all your plugin, plugins settings, and I-O settings first!) then re-install.

If you still have problems, create a new blank session (not from a template) and import all your tracks from the "bad" session. (the session itself could be corrupted) - or try a recent backup.

If you're still having problems, switch to Sonar. (g)

Another issue that could come into play is the record disk
reservation that is done (particularly if QuickPunch or
TrackPunch are enabled).

Before recording or playback, PT has to go out to the filesystem and
reserve a file block large enough to accommodate the pre-allocation
(which be default is "unlimited"). If you are tracking on a very large
drive (1TB or more) there can be a significant pause for
playback and recording.

Reducing the preallocation time to something reasonable for
your session (15 minutes or something like that) can greatly
reduce this startup lag.

I had this same issue, and as this link was the first of my google results, i felt it my duty to create an account and post the solution I found.

I wasn't interested in the work required to remove/reinstall protools.

Windows Version:

CTRL - K
(Also listed under 'Options - Pre/Post Roll')

Disabling this will change the little flags surrounding your cursor from yellow to white, displaying their inactivity.

protools version 9.0.6

I was giving you a preroll as I thought you needed more time. At least thats what the hot key you selected implied.

Im sorry for misunderstanding your situation as reinstalling can be a bit uncomfortable for me and I prefer not to do it.
