Yep... If history is any indication, the price will go UP in the future.

I'm not sure why Lexicon would want to out-price themselves. I know a lot of people who lust for a classy softverb, but they're not going to fork out 1 1/2 grand for it. Lexicon could completely own the market if they would reduce the price by 50%. IMHO.

... And those are the people the LXP bundle is for.

Yup, and Ferrari would sell 10 times more if they halved the price by half... but over time Ferrari would stop being a Ferrari to become something different.

I bought it, I couldn't be happier, and I think the price is even cheap for what it is giving me... a Lex 96 ITB with low CPU usage??!! It's just crazy. My bet is that once the LX bundle goes out, the price of PCM stays or even rises.

Ditto. As long as this thing stays supported, it'll be the best $ I've ever spent on a bundle.

Well, yes. Just sayin'.

In the current economic climate, and with plenty of competition that delivers FX that are "good enough", even $1200 is a tough sell.

TBH, I'm still somewhat surprised Lexicon went down the software route at all. Who is now going to buy a hardware box, and for what purpose? Live gigs? Broadcasting?

Just think about the differences in margin for Lexicon when going native: no manufacturing costs, no storage costs, hardly no technical service, much less need for capital... And they just had to code some already existing algorithms to have their new product done. The economics for them are just way better and can lower the price which in turn means more sales. Only worry though is iLok being safe, for the rest it seems like a very profitable move.

One potential solution that almost every plug-in manufacturer has done is simply "un-bundle" the PCM verbs and sell them all separately, say at $400 an algorithm. This way you could go and buy the Vintage Plate and get the rest when you have the cash. The downside is that you end up paying more for each verb separately versus buying the bundle.

Sonnox, Flux, Soundtoys, etc. all do this type of pricing.

Just trying to revive the thread in regards to when an update that fixes the horrendous noise burst bug might be forthcoming. Nobody Special- are you out there? Any rough idea of when they may release an update that fixes this ear and speaker killer?

Thanks.

I don't imagine any upates will be available before the new iLok drivers/scheme comes out. Just a guess.

From what I've been reading on this site the old iLok has been cracked and so I guess the makers of iLok are working on a new version which will hopefully just involve loading new software onto our existing iLoks. I read on some thread here ( I can't remember which one) that the new iLoks were expected to be out in the Fall, and I believe (but may be wrong here, memory-wise) that it was expected in October, but again, this is all rumor, from what I can tell. I mean, what the heck do I know!?

And as usual legit paying customers suffer for it.

i just can't believe that's the reason to hold back such a critical update ... a comment on this from Lexicon would really be appreciated.

thanks,

That won't affect the update. The new revision will simply overwrite the current plugin using the same iLok authorization. Those using cracks, however, will be SOL, which is great.

And fwiw the noise bursts are now gone. thumbsup

I don't work for Lex, but that's not holding them back.

Huh? What do you mean? I'm still getting noise bursts on my copy of the plug-in. Did yours just stop producing those blasts of pain?

Ahh, so I guess you have a new beta version that you're testing. I wish I was that lucky! But for us non-beta testers, we'd sure like the new update to come out soon!

I am using ONLY Lexicon plugin reverbs on this mix. No delays, no other reverbs or effects. I think i used 4 instances, maybe 5. forgot to check. at least 3 of them have been edited and at least 1 is stock. editing is so easy and powerful with these things.

So, this audio example, i starts out with the full mix. When the entire mix dries up each time, the only thing i am doing is cutting the Lexicon Reverb returns. and then putting them back in.

Listen for the Hall Reverb on the acoustic guitar (this patch was edited)

Listen for the Hall on the vocal, different from the acoustic

Listen for the massive hall verb on the electric guitar single notes and later chords

and its a bit more subtle but i also have a different, heavily edited hall on the snare drum as well.

By the way, the artist is MIGGS on Warner / RockRidge Records. The song is called "Damaged". I am producing their new album, due out in March. I've also been doing a ton of tips & Techniques video blogs on my own website, Music Mixing by Major Label Mix Engineer Ken Lewis

And for those of you reading the Kush Audio Clariphonic thread, i used the Clariphonic across this mix buss and posted an example on that thread.

enjoy!
-Ken Lewis

Very nice sound

I've only heard it once myself (must have opened close to 500-1000 sessions which use the plug) but it damn near knocked me on my arse. It was one of those days when we were monitoring LOUDLY.
