Cubase 5 not recognizing my audio interface..

Hey guys, I recently got Cubase 5 working on my windows 7 64 bit. Everything worked fine till I tried configuring my audio settings. When I click on Devices > Device Setup > VST Audio System, all I see on the right box on the screen is a big red "DEVICE FAILED TO OPEN!"...

What should I do? I'm using an external Presonus Inspire 1394 Firewire audio interface. I was previously using Cubase SX 3 when in windows xp 32 bit and it all worked fine. The only reason I upgraded to Cubase 5 was because of it's Windows 7 and 64 bit compatibility. What went wrong here? Can someone help me? I tried updating cubase but it didnt work. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks

Presonus must be the problem.

have you got the latest drivers and is it 64bit compatible?

cheers

Windows 7 isn't even officially out yet (Oct 22 release date), so how can a sequencer written before it fully support it yet. SB say they will be supporting it officially soon after more testing, but be prepared to wait for a couple of revisions of C5 first. Having said this, some people have had success running the unsupported win 7 beta and RC with C5.

George is right - 64 bit is still really flaky. It's almost certainly the Presonus not having a compatible 64 bit driver which is causing the problem.

You will also probably find much more joy running the 32 bit version of Cubase inside your win 7 64 bit o/s - this is still the best combination due to plugin and driver compatibility and it still provides a performance boost over 32 bit o/s systems with up to 4GB ram used for Cubase as opposed to 2MB in XP32. The 32 bit version of Cubase should be able to run the Presonus driver with no problems. You will be able to run everything 64 bit eventually but it might take a while for all your ducks to be in a row.

Download the 64 bit Driver for VISTA.

Confused on the whole 32/64 thing. So if I get Windows 7 is there a 64 and 32 version option when installing?

When using Cubase 5 does that have a 32/64 option?

Right now I use XP Pro but want to upgrade to a new PC and C5. I have plugins like Sonnox and Waves that won't work on 64 bit. They should work on 32 bit right? Waves is 24bit but runs on 32bit XP I believe.

what is advantage of 64 bit anyway?

What do the people over at Steiny.Net say about this problem? I'm sure someone there has had it before and or is running 64 bit on W7.

You should register there.

go into your device drivers and change your firewire driver to the legacy driver...

1. go to device manager
2. click your 1394
3. update driver
4. have disk
5. pick legacy driver instead of the one you have

this is a good workaround and has been working for me to get my firestudio working...
