theres building the hype and then theres just plain cruelty, this would fall into the latter category.

I was at AES yesterday and asked them about upgrade paths for current v3 bundle owners, but they said they haven't worked any of that out yet.

yeah, Mitch said the details aren't worked out yet but it isn't going to be long. He gave Joel Hamilton and I a pretty lengthy demo of the decapitator, and to be honest I was EXTREMELY impressed. Soundtoys is a company I expect a lot from, but I didn't see myself having any use for another saturation plug until I tried it out. It's WAY more versatile than I initially expected. I'm planning on following whatever the TDM upgrade path is for that and the panman asap.

sidenote: the panman also looks amazing.

Same with me... and I ended up ordering the whole SoundToys bundle from Tony today - hoping that they will sort out a fair upgrade as soon as Decapitator is out. :-)

URS Saturation is good but it most probably won't go anywhere near the amount of saturation possible with Decapitator. URS's plugin is mostly for subtle to medium amount saturation. Anyway, judging by the quality of SoundToys's distortion in their currently available plugins, I'd expect the best saturation/distortion plugin yet.

From what little I can hear in that video due to the background noise, it seems to do a lot of similar things to the Stillwell Audio Bad Buss Mojo.

Seeing that this guy is my current go to plugin for making my drums a bit punchier/dirtier, I'd love to have another option that 1 ups it.

Yeah the Stillwell one is pretty awesome for this purpose.

I thought the Stillwell one was poor. Im sure the Soundtoys Decap will be much better.

The Soundtoys one will have more sound shaping "flavours" for sure.

URS saturator is very subtle. It's aim is to add additive harmonics emulating tape and a few well known pres. It does that extremely well and adds a wonderful "bigness" to the audio. It is not a "distortion" unit as we think of them.

Decapitator is much more bold. It's really good for spanking the signal (or torturing it, as they indicate with the button so labeled). Not really aimed at being put on every track! I think of it as a sweeter, warmer, more analog version of Trash.

I'll take both, thanks, but they're really not the same sort of tool.

Yeah SoundToys have never disappointed. I bet it will be great. The saturation elements on their existing plugins is very good already.

Wonderful. I can't wait. Soundtoys have shown to be all quality and class in the past. Simple, effective UIs, fantastic algorithms behind them, and they aren't Waves to boot. Win on all counts!
