Click track help

Hi all. I plan on recording my drums Via playing along to a clicktrack.
My question is- what would be the best program I could use to write my clicktracks?

For mixing and editing I use Cool Edit, and I can't afford to run out and buy pro tools, so that's not an option.
I tried to use fruityloops to write the clicktracks, but there are two major problems I've come across; the program only seems to support 4/4 time signatures, and the tempo cannot be varied throughout the song.
We have a lot of songs that change time signatures and drop in meter or blast blazingly fast, so I need something that is flexible.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd look into getting another software program like cubase in which you can make tempo maps and assign any virtual intrument as a click sound. But in your case just get a cheap ass used Alesis SR-16 drum machine. You can have it play a basic beat and do tempo changes. I've never used cool edit but I find it hard to believe that a recording program wouldn't have some way of creating a click track using midi atleast. I actualy use groove agent with Nuendo and have my band do all there overdubs with it first, then I go back mute groove agent and record my drums as if I were playing live with the band. I play better this way since I can't groove to a cowbell. Hope this helps.
