using Firewire 400 device with firewire 800?

so here's my question.

is it possible somehow to use a firewire 400 interface on a computer with only a firewire 800 port?

could this be done with a FW hub or something?

thanks

I'm currently having problems on a pc (XP Pro SP3) with a Belkin 800 3-port card, with Belkin 800 to 400 adaptor cables. Disk drives work fine, but 2 firewire soundcards ( MOTU 828 and Mackie Satellite) won't . XP device manager will report soundcard OK, but no audio program will give me playback when the relevant card is selected as audio device

Either will work fine from a (Belkin) 400 PCIe card in the same pc...The Belkin 800 card has also worked OK with an RME Fireface 800. I need the PCIe slot now hence trying the adaptor cables....

I've had quite a lot of experience battling a pile of Firewire 800 problems on WinXP in the past, but I'm not getting anywhere with this one!

Any advice if you've seen this exact problem would be much appreciated! PC is a dual -core AMD on an MSI mobo.

Cheers,

Gwyn

Will the last person out of UK Pro Audio please mute the monitors?
