Apple is pushing you the Box Set, which includes iLife and iWork.
It's the only way for Tiger users to upgrade to Snow Leopard, unfortunately.

This is a real good one... and one piece of my reasons for wanting to free of Apple...

We have 3 Macs. Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro. So, naturally, we bought the family pack for upgrade to Leopard. I want to sell my Mac Pro, and we want to sell the MacBook. Buying the Family Pack upgrade to SL would be.. well, not bright. But, we cannot split the family pack of Leopard either. Sell both to one person with the Leopard Family Pack would be best..

Buying SL for $29 and installing on a Tiger machine works. But, violates the EULA (you are.. Breaking the Law, Breaking the Law..). So, even if we do sell both to one person with the Family Pack.. I would be unable to *legally* grab SL for $29 and upgrade the remaining MacBook Pro.

So, I look on the Apple Store site, and.. oh wow. No "single pack" Leopard. OK. So, if I own Tiger and cannot split my Family Pack Leopard.. and if I cannot buy a single Leopard pack or two and sell the Family one I own.. wow...

UP YOURS APPLE.

I really like my MacBook Pro (despite being 1st gen core2duo with some typical Apple limitations). But, I am so pissed by this that I just want to be free of all things Apple now. Yeah, yeah.. cut off nose to spite face. But whoever buys them, if they do not buy all three, each buyer will get Tiger machines (well, one will get a Leopard Family Pack)... (sigh) Unless I am mistaken, and someone knows some things I am unaware of and have not been able to find. All I have seen are upset people over the "$169 box of stuff I don't need" to go from Tiger to SL, and others saying how happy they are that they can simply go from Tiger to SL for $29.. and hope the Appolice do not show up at their door, or do some "remote machine lock-out" that Apple may have built in to the OS (brick it baby!)

The Apple was tempting, and I took a bite...

nikki-k,

I like the way my machine is working with Logic 8.0.2 and Tiger 10.4.10.
I saved the money to upgrade but, quite frankly, kept it. We don't actually NEED to upgrade anything: if it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Concerning the finger to Apple, I'm with you.

Pro Tools 8 is not compatible yet with snow leopard but work fine under leopard.

The $29 upgrade works with Tiger too. In fact the SL-install disc can even boot your mac so you can run a clean install as well.
This is not official stated by Apple but never the less, - it works...

Problem being, the EULA presents a bit of fun.. technically, one MUST be upgrading from 10.5.x (Leopard). It will work just fine.. but...

Guess it comes down to comfort level, and whether or not Apple will figure a way to *enforce* verification of the path of upgrade....

They almost certainly won't. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it - if Apple tick you off this much about a few dollars worth of upgrade, then just install it on what you want, and be done with it. I hardly think apple are going to clamp down on one family with a very slightly dubious upgrade path.
