Upgrading to a Mac Pro 2.66 gHz, Logic 9 and Snow Leopard

I have been using a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0 gHz with 4 GB RAM and Logic 8. I am ready to upgrade to one of the following systems:

Mac Pro Quad Core 2.66 gHz
8 GB RAM
4 TB Hard Drive Space

I want to run Logic 9 and Snow Leopard, and have no performance issues. I occasionally run into Core Audio and related crashing issues running Waves and/or Guitar Rig plugins with my current system.

My trusty Power Mac has served me well for 6 years. The price difference between the two scenarios (after my deal) is roughly $2000. I still need to buy a PCIe Apogee Symphony Card.

Do I really need the 8 Core? Will I need more than 8 GB RAM?

i'm in a similar boat. I think i'm going for the 8 core, but the 2.26.
Seems like way too much for the upgrade to 2.66.
Or, I may go used 2.8 or 3.2 8 core from 2008. Either way, it IS time to go Intel.

Although I might try to wait until January. If you can wait until then, the bugs will be out of snow leopard, and very likely the mac pro's could see a bump and a price shift. From what i understand, logic isn't super optimized for 8 cores YET, so YMMV. My biggest hope for logic and snow leopard though is the fact that the GPU's will be used at some point to do processing. At that point, I think your CPU becomes a little less critical.
