Reason can't record audio (GarageBand can, or so they say).

EDIT: I just recorded audio into GarageBand, so it isn't just a myth.

Sony ACID with some good acid sample CD's.

I think Apple licenced some of the technology from ACID for Garageband.

So Acid Pro 5 --will work as effficently (drag and drop pre-sequenced phrases) every thing syncs --and samples every good as my Kurzweil~~and will plug & play with my XP ? >>> Think I will have to break down and buy a used MIni Mac...I don't think one needs to even read a book ,,,like suggested with Sonar. That one reason I was never able to go beyond the surface with all my Kurzweils >> the manuals were thicker then the keyboards!

The new Sonar Home Studio 4 XL is a great program. I just got it a couple of weeks ago, and really like it so far.

I also recomend the book "Sonar 4 Power" to learn how to use it.

GarageBand II on PC...

Well for something cheap and easy I would have to agree that Cakewalks Sonar Home Studio at about 150 USD compares fairly well with GarageBand.

There is also Fruity Loops PE which runs at about the same price, it's more pattern based and will seem familiar is you are used to working on an mpc.

There are tons of others like Band in a Box, ect ...

I guess the SE versions of cubase could also fit in here ... but you don't really get softsynths and effects per say... so I don't know.

By all means, do it.

[Before anyone jumps me, here -- of course, GB is a shameless knockoff of ACID and was even designed with virtually identical control layout in the first ver, and, of course, GB is notoriously CPU hungry (particularly vis a vis the version of ACID Pro 3 which I used in a head to head with a friend's GB on his Powerbook), and, of course ACID has been filling very much the same niche as GB in the Windows world -- since way back in 1998 -- but GarageBand has cute little cartoon instruments, for crying out loud! How can ACID Pro compete with that! I just think our friend cjogo is a perfect match for GarageBand. A marriage made in Heaven. Oh, and btw, cjogo, could I have your old Kurzweills, since you're not using them?]

Well, for your information, Sonar Home Studio 4 XL also has those cute little cartoon instruments available,(you can turn them off if you want)....you know just to diguise it as a hokey home studio program, but the reality is, it's a dynamite recording program that does what I need...audio & midi recording and editing, and prints written musical scores from your midi notes( Not a full featured music sheet writing program, but good enough for my personal needs).....and has the main basics of Sonar 4, at a reduced price.

p.s. Sonar 5 is being released later this month.....pre-orders are now being accepted.

Oh yes, reading the book, is so you might learn something. There's lots of features to this program, and a little "read the instructions", will certainly be of help.

Oh yes, and because I am a registered Cakewalk user, I was able to get a Sonar Home Studio 4XL program on my computer for $129....not bad if you ask me.

Still using the Roland VS system ...connected to the Kurzweil sequencers >> so not really using a PC or MAc software. Just demo'd the Mac and thought it was so much easier than anything I had been using the last 15 years. I started with PC software back in '86...way too difficult and left a bad taste >>> but I could find someone under 30 ~ ~ who could open a ACID manual and get us started. When you come from a background of knobs & switches ~~~ starring @ menus & windows ^^ aren't always a welcomed avenue.
PS^^ Haven't yet thrown out the Kurzweils, yet ......love the samples but, know less then 10% of how, to make them operate,,,after 15 years.

Sorry, I was in a really spitty mood, earlier. There are a lot of great things about GB and a lot of folks really like it -- but do make sure the machine you're thinking about buying has enough horsepower to run it the way you want.

Was thinking of transferring all the edited GB tracks >( Spdif or Optically ) to our Roland VS system ...then compile the vocals and guitars, etc. to master ? May not be do~able with the Mac ....
