I agree.

Still, I find it fair to price it this low. 29€00 including shipping (for Leopard users) is a nice move from Apple, considering that this is what Leopard was to be in the first place. I wish they had done the same with Logic.

I'll wait till Cubase updates as well.

If you own several macs do you have to pay for all of them or just once?

can I do a full install with the 29euro version or can it only do 'messy' update installs? (I do not like update installs, prefer full installation on a formatted partition.)

Hope they got rid off all the PPC code to bring the OS back to reasonable size.

best

The way they put it makes it sound like a complete install and not an update install....

Did an update with my backup drive from 10.5.8 to 10A432 which may be the release version. All my plugs work, the only thing I had to do was run AU manager again.
I see no difference on my Mac Pro 1,1 2.66 so far running Logic 9.
Hopefully Logic 9.01 will have 64 bit so we can run lots a ram..
Do a superduper back up of your drive (free) which makes that drive bootable and for $29 it's a no loose upgrade.

If every plugin I use is 64 bit compatible, and if Logic 9 is 64 bit compatible, etc.
In short, when I can use 16GB of RAM, which is the maximum for my Mac Pro,
and Logic is stable, I'll bite.....

I installed snow leopard on my macbook pro (13" with apogee duet and logic). Everything seems to work fine. I'm not going to install it on my main Mac Pro symphony system, as I have a couple ongoing projects and don't want any surprises. Also, the Mac Pro has a UAD2 quad, and would not like to find out about compatability issues the hard way.

Same here, I installed it only on my MBP. No problems yet... very cool. Haven't tried all my plugins yet though.

Everything works great here except for CoolBook. I did a clean install then migrated from a TM backup. The update has been flawless on all 5 installs I have done for my family as well.

Good idea,

I'm scared that it will be a while though, since they released 5.1.0 already

I'm find this amusing as well.

[top]Windows 7 and OS X 10.6 Support

Steinberg has outlined its plans to ensure compatibility for its current product and technology palette to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and Windows 7. A three-phase development and testing plan has been implemented to ensure compatibility with the new operating system versions.

In Phase One, the current development phase, Steinberg is testing all current products on both Windows 7 and OS X 10.6. Phase Two will see any development work resulting from compatibility testing during Phase One. This stage will also see the certification of some products straight away, should all stringent testing be passed satisfactorily. Phase Three will see testing and release of any compatibility updates developed during Phase Two, and certification of the rest of the product range not already certified in Phase Two.

The ongoing process is slated to span several months; further information on the progress of individual products is to be made available on the forums at cubase.net and nuendo.com as the implementation plan progresses.

I spoke with UA early last month. They were proud to announce then that they were Snow Leopard compatible. The tech guy I talked to seemed fairly confident about the performance and was making it sound like it had been working well with Snow Leopard for quite a while.

Are you serious - Steinberg are only just starting to test Snow Leopard now

What a bunch of halfwits.

That is exactly what we are talking about here. I guess you didn't read. I posted the entire blurb from Steinberg on this and since 5.1 is already out I assume the full testing for Snow Lep and Win 7 will be a while down the road, and of course it's Steinberg so who knows.

Halfwit, nice.
You sound like a wonderful person.

Steinberg scares the crap out of me. I would be afraid to use their products even if they paid me to do it.

But then again opinions are like ***holes, everybody has one.

????? I can only assume you misinterpreted my post. I was referring to Steinberg. Not like Snow Leopard has been known about for a year and dev releases have been out for months. That's just pathetic on SB's part.

By the way for reference: "halfwit" is a fairly common, not particularly rude term in the UK - equivalent to moron.

Snow leopard and logic 8. Are there any issues that are known at this point? I really want/need to do this update.

Then my apologies, it seemed directed at the posters here. Yes we use it as an equivalent to moron as well, that's why it angered me.

I agree with the Steinberg scares, I have been up and down with them for years, I would love to drop them like a hat, but I can work really fast in Cubase, know it very well.

again my apologies on the misinterpretation.

I'd like to know if anybody has tested performance with 4gb RAM. They say 3.3 gb was the cutoff in one application in 32-bit...?

So... is there anyone out there who has exactly 4 gigs RAM and has seen if the extra tiny bit of juice came out?

Specifically Logic 9 with Kontakt 3.5?

I found that Disk Warrior has released a free updater from 4.0 that is compatible with 10.6, which allows you to make a new boot disk that is Snow Leopard compatible.

Also, Apogee has new Duet drivers for 10.6. I have not seen any new drivers for the Symphony yet, so I am still hesitant to even try it on my MacPro.

Is anyone using 10.6 with Apogee symphony successfully with the current drivers?

Snow Leopard Compatibility: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Compatibility List has a long list of compatible/incompatible programs.

I installed snow leopard a couple of days ago. My macbook pro is way snappier. Logic 8 runs much faster without as many "system overload" messages. I also got back over 6 gigs of hard drive space. The only problem I have encountered so far is that Stillwell plugs fail validation. I checked out their site, and they are working on it.

If I may ask, how would you define "snappier", and what about Logic do you find "much faster"?

Personally, I have found Logic to be slightly slower under Snow Leopard, although I agree that things like Finder and Safari seem to be quicker to load.

I can't think of any reason why Logic users would need to upgrade at this point.
