Best, fastest internal hard drive for Mac w/Logic 9? I get "disk too slow" errors

Please bare with me, I'm very computer illiterate .

Working with a new super hot-rod Mac and Logic 9, everything was running great until I built up over 20 GBs of 96k audio in the session.... yeah, there's a LOT of big audio files in there.

Now things are running slower and so far, twice, I got two different errors (don't have the specifics handy), but in both cases the error said "disk too slow... yada yada....".

I believe that the internal drive that is selected as the "audio drive" in the rig I am using is a "deskstar 750 GB"... I think it's a 7500rpm. The drive is new and is essentially empty.

So my question, is there a super hot-rod internal hard drive for the Mac that I can put in this rig that might help reduce the problems I'm having? Any recommendations? I'd guess that someone must make an "audio-specific" internal hard drive that is ultra fast for this type of use... yes?

Again, sorry for the computer ignorance, I'm a musician and engineer, not a computer ace, any direction here will be helpful, thanks. Again, everything was working great until I built up over 15 - 20 GB worth of audio files in the session (96k).

Someone suggested that it's not necessarily the drive itself that is "too slow", but that the data just can't get to the drive fast enough, etc... any thoughts welcomed.

For quite a while now, I use WD's Raptors as audio drives, and I can't remember when was the last time I saw "disk too slow" message. Some say that the newer 7200 drives with 32MB buffer out-perform Raptors, but in my case, everything runs very smooth.

Just do this homey it might help as well.... make sure your inputs are disarmed when you are done tracking. That will relieve some of the stress on your computer.

SSD maybe?

Newegg.com - Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G1 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Solid State Disks
i have osx and logic on it. myself... i use it only as an application drive, but if you need fast access to large files, the random read speeds on it are out of control.

i have this setup now with logic9 and quad core 2.66 mac pro blazing fast. you will need a special mounting kit since this is a 2.5" drive

ocz vertex is also a great drive and a bit more cost effective. intel is a bit faster

Nope, been using F1s for 1.5 years now and so far so good!

F3s are supposed to be faster but nothing beats the Intel X25-M..you can get the 160GB off eBay for ~$600

unless i'm reading this wrong it sounds like your audio is stored on the internal (built in) hard drive. if you are reading and writing audio to the same drive that is running your OS and Logic you will definitely run into this error. get an external drive and store all of your audio files on it. record directly to it so your built in drive can focus on running software.

this is correct except, you shouldn't get an EXTERNAL drive, but you should get a 2ND internal drive. I'm sure that's what you meant, but since the OP has a new "hot rod" mac pro, that would mean he certainly has another SATA HD slot in there and that's where he would want to install a 2nd drive and want to be reading / writing audio files (sessions) on that, while the application and the OS are running off the original internal drive.
