New Antress Modern Plugs version, Free.... sounding good!!

Hey fellas!!

Here we go again.... new babies version, check them out, I think this time the plugs sound better and more musical. Compressor, Modern Premier and to my ears, for Free plugs they are rocking... to be honest didn't really dig the older versions but this one now... I can put them in use

Antress Modern Plugins

Enjoy & good job to Antress Dev!!!

Interesting, I had the previous version (not sure which) of these, and I just deleted them off my comp because I never got around to trying them, and I didn't see myself doing so anytime soon (there were so many in the package!).

I'd like to hear more reports as they come in - I would like to give them a shot at some point.

If the "Modern" plugins would have coast a few hundreds or thousand more, and come with a pricey spongel dongle and a very "bank-happy" endorser smile, people would be championing these plugins from here to neevana.

but since they are free from some "Asian weirdo/thief/reverse engineer/anti-capitalist/communist/anti-Christ" (that's what i read, he might be the guy next door for all i know) who get's nothing for them, i see those plugins get dismissed as junk.

let it be clear, I'm not saying they are the best thing in digital world since somone though about the number 10. ( That is by far - the Nebula)
although some earlier versions of this plugins tended to add distortion instead of Harmonic distortion, and they can be very buggy at times ( the new version of modern amplifier - LA2A clone crashes the daw)
but they are good and useful plugins that you can mix an album and a hit records with them (been there, done that). and they keep getting better all the time. and for the money they are the best you can get, free.

It does seem that anything given away isn't given as much cred - but that goes for all walks of life.

Heck, when I first started my project studio, I charged very low rates (and at the beginning, did my share of the 'free' stuff...ack!).

I got used and trampled on like a rug! The more you help people out, the more they will beat you for.

Once I upped my prices, I got better clients, absolutely stopped getting taken advantage of (not that I would take it anymore), and all around improved my life and atmosphere. People suddenly were willing to pay for things that before were 'expected'.

Anyways, that rant aside, part of the reason is also because if you aren't charging anything, people assume that you don't pride/value your product much, so it couldn't possibly be that great. The assumption might be wrong, but it still lives.

i used these plugs back when i was on PT 7.
they did sound very good.
my main issue was there was about 60 of em, and the were all named things like "modern 1A2B3Cde" and i couldnt tell which was which.

if they made the names more obvious , or let me name them. id prolly still b using them.

there 166 clone was nice.

but i have work to do, and i dont have time to figure out what is what.

You mean like this? "These are the most exact models of this-and-that hardware, I've EVER heard!"...Instead of: "Although I get paid to endorse this crap, you shurely wouldn't think that I would use any of these on a mix, when I have my 1073's, 4000G, 480L, Infernal Machine, U47's, and Studers laying around, now would you?"

As Flavor Flav once said: Don't believe the hype!

Are they just VST/AU/DX? Do they support RTAS, or would I need a wrapper?

They are VST only, so you would need a wrapper for RTAS. You need to check if they work with the wrapper, too.

I got these a few weeks back, and I really like them. As someone posted above, they are a bit of a pain in the ass in the way that they are named, it's hard to remember which was which.

Well the stuff is surprisingly awesome!

YouTube - UAD 1176LN vs Antress Seventh Sign.

YouTube - UAD Pultec EQP-1A vs Antress Black Dragon.

Forget that Synthedit and Synthmaker paranoia... These plugins sound really good for the "price"

Just checked the videos on youtube - I'm pretty bloody impressed actually! I honestly thought that they would sound like junk and didn't bother looking at them - especially after hearing some other GS members' responses to it. They certainly dont sound "like the same re-badged compressor" to me. Anyone checked that Bootsy's stuff out? Top class plugs.

Anyone know where I can get that EL8 plug from modern, I'd like to hear that!

If your using vst plugins I believe you can change the name of the dll file and it will still function.

Thanks for that, i also didnt dig the old versions too much, with the exception of maybe the analoger and the DBX160 emulation, the rest for me is pretty much garbage. Ill try this new ones!

F the old versions, never tried them, i only found out the antress plugs a week ago and i've gotta tell ya, haven't tried all the plugs yet but the Lost Angel (which emulates the LA-2A) has got to be the best vocal plugin compressor, yeah I said it! been using Waves Ren Comp for vocals till now, not anymore!
I'm sure it would be great on other instruments as well, I just happen to use 'em on vocals only so far.

BTW I have no idea how well it really emulates the LA-2A since I've never used one, I just love how it sounds and that's enough for me, BUT I'd love to hear from guys who actually compared it to the UAD versions or even the original LA-2A. Anybody done/heard such a test?

I'm really liking some of these plugs, the la2a plug was acting up a bit on my computer, but the newer 1176 type plug is pretty cool

I did a brief comparison to my UAD plugins and did not find any similarity between them. And the constant crashes I had when demoing these plugs annoyed me so much that I stopped thinking about them.

Being on protools I'm not gonna go through the hassle of using a wrapper but those videos are pretty f#&*ing impressive...

i downloaded the pack and found them very usefull on a mix of a live event i did last week. they added some nice punch and grit to the tracks that translated well across playback mediums.

however after reading a bit on the interwebs apparently there are lots of people who hate them. seems the guy making them is just dressing them up with nice graphics to hide what is essentially the same distortion models in different flavors accross all his plugs and calling them 'analog' sounding and people like us are being caught up with the name dropping of vintage gear.

not sure because i still consider myself an amateur, but worth considering. i think theres a shootout somewhere to be googled with more info. flashverb is a fun dirty verb and some of the comps are very usefull for drum smashing. but hey they're free, so if they work for a song or project, who cares whats under teh hood.

you've gotta understand that all those bad reviews were about the old antress plugs, the new ones are totally different beats. totally different. check all the bad reviews and you'll see they're all from 2007. check out the new ones and trust your ears that's all I can say.

Longtime reader, firsttime poster... I downloaded the Antress plug-ins last Saturday, found a few I liked. Today I load my DAW and they're all "gone"... I mean, they still show in my plug-ins, but none of them load up. Any ideas? I tried re-loading them into my VST folder but no luck.
