Apogee Duet and guitar software distortion

Hi guys,

yes it's me, the guy with the eternal Duet issues. I have been testing some new pieces tonight - put some DI's (Monacor) in between outputs and my speakers and plug in external monitor and un-BOOOM - silence.. very happy, the important thing on the DIs was the ground lift switch, once i hit that I had silence and seemingly no signal loss. I am getting there but still have a problem and this is not related to whether an external monitor is plugged in and maybe not grounding but unfortunately it makes the same noise I had when I had all these problems in the first place:

When I use a guitar amp program like GR3 or Logic's - upon using a distortion/heavy overdrive pedal effect it's really a bad noise even before I hit a note - massive bees/fax/white noise. Now I have been playing guitar for a long time and playing in real life so no software :p so I know what feedback is and cluster distortion but to me this did not sound normal. Have others been trying Duet with distortion in guitar software?

cheers all!

Have you tried a noise gate on the channel?

It could be any number of issues:

1) Guitar pickups

2) Guitar wiring/Cable

3) Your power from your house

4) Your mac's power

5) The firewire bus

Noise Gate is a simple workaround until you can really isolate the problem.

Haven't tried a noise gate - I guess the phenomena I put forward is non typical then? That sucks for me :/ After all the hours and miles travelled trying to find a fix for my duet I might have to give up or at least test out another sound interface. Will check the noise gate for now though, I'm not really using distortion that much in my stuff.

thanks Draw
