Thread Starter | Old RME Hammerfall used in standalone mode?
I have an old Multiface (original version about 7 years old) and wanted to see if I can use it as a standalone D to A along with an ad16x. I can't find the manual on their website, not to mention any tech support on the unit. I don't want to hook the multiface into a computer at all, just use it to get the occasional analog out for reamping purposes. If this works I plan on connecting it via lightpipe to the apogee. Thanks for any help.

it's definitely possible. i've used my multiface this way before. however, you have to hook it up to the computer to program the settings then you can disconnect it and not have to touch it again. so, hook it up. launch the RME control panel thing and the mixer and set your inputs and outputs and sample rate and you have to set it to the right mode (which i forget the name of) and then you can turn off the computer and the multiface works as a standalone converter. i used mine as a 4 analog in (at 24/96) to adat out |

Thanks. Yeah, I found that info out after I posted. I still need a power adapter. Do you know the specs on that? I hooked up an adapter last night that seemed to work as the red word clock error light came on, but, I didn't want to run the risk of damaging the unit. Also, when you get it set up and turn off the computer you have to keep it plugged in/turned on, correct? Or, I think it loses it's settings. Is that true? Seems kind like a PITA. This unit was used in an old gigastudio pc that I still have but don't plan on keeping around so I don't know if this whole thing is realistic for me. Thanks for your input.
