Headphone mixes

How is everybody - particularly PT users - running headphone mixes out of a DAW?

Thanks!
Chris

Just use a Send off the individual tracks out to a second set of outputs (i.e. 3-4), plug that into headphone distrubution box of choice.

Or, I often just run the phones off the main mix and listen to what they're getting.

I've got an Aviom headphone rig and I send instruments to separate outputs via aux's so everyone can have their own mix.

i do just this for everything except rhythm tracking. i'm usually in a room w/ a console, so i just use PT as a tape machine, and route cues w/ the console aux sends.

I did a headphone mix with a pair of 7506 SONY cans, recently out of lack of alternative monitoring options.
It's not bad for a fourth mix.

thanks for your replies! I'd like to work out a way that the performers won't be affected by my changes at the "console" - volume changes, solo, mute, etc. . . any ideas?

As long as you use a pre fader aux send, you won't have to worry about that too much. As long as you only mix off the faders and not the preamps, you won't need to worry about volume changes. You should be fine soloing without affecting the performers. Mutes would depend on the console you have. If you feel the need to mute, why not just pull the fader down in case muting would mute it in the phones too? It accomplishes the same thing.

Like Stick said above - route a send to one of your unused outputs (in my case 3-8) - often a mono mix is all I need for headphone cues so I can get up to 6 mixes out of my 888. Route the output to a headphone amp/distro box. Make the send pre-fader and it won't be affected by mutes/solos/level changes to the main mix.

Yep, that's the ticket.

I had a 12 channel custom split built into 6 - 12 channel mixers. Each player sets his own mix.
