protools start-up error message

I get this (attached) error message every time I startup ptLE 7.3 on Windows Xp. I recently added a new external Hd to my system, but the drive name is not 11+ characters long. I just click no when asked to quit protools, it starts up and functions fine. What am i misunderstanding and how can I get this error to go away?

thanks!

hello there,

without insulting jmarkham in any way,the advice given is incorrect.

from PT 7.1 onward NTFS is the only file system used for XP systems.

i know this may sound condescending, but simply do what the error message tells you.
change the name(s) of your drives to shorter than 11 characters
(including spaces),
for me, i do something like 'media' or 'sessions'

that should fix the problem.

Gack! .. You're right. I got that exactly backwards.

I have been using HFS+ support when I do use my PC system (which is
rare). That works really well.

thanks guys
i was totally about to transfer and reformat that drive! i backed it up last night and was going to reformat it later today. it's not condescending at all to me, i was hoping someone would over-explain it to me. I didn't think my drive names were(are) longer than 11, but i'll doublecheck them now. It's entirely possible.

Nah .. you're no dummy ... it's a silly restriction from the old Interlok package
(iLok)... we shouldn't have to worry about that.
