Thread Starter | Apple Acrylic monitor Adapter????????? I'm very frustrated! I have an older 23" acrylic apple cinema display and a 1st gen. g5. I need to extend the monitor. I bought a DVI extension cable for it. Then this is when I realized that the old monitor has an rounded DVI connector. I can't find an adapter for this. This is f**kin insane!!! If I buy a new mac I can't even use the old monitor?? I payed $2k for the monitor years back and there is nothing wrong with the monitor. Why isn't there an adaptor for this? BELKIN make an adaptor for the older towers to the newer square DVI but no one makes a Female rounded DVI to Male Square DVI. Is there anyone who can help me with this? It started as needing an extention cable to relizing that when I get a new Mac I can't even use the monitor anymore. Is there anyone who makes the right adapter??

| You need an Apple Display Connector (ADC) to DVI adapter. You'll need to find one that will power the USB ports as well. Maybe try Dr. Bott LLC, Mac and iPod stuff that solves real problems. Good luck! D

| Hello, For a few years all the Apple monitors were powered off the tower, so a custom dvi connection that included power and usb was used called the "Apple Display Connector" as the previous poster noted. I'm not saying it was a brilliant idea, but it accomplished a design goal of only one cable coming out of the monitor. Here's where to get the correct adaptor. It includes adc>dvi, plus a power supply for the monitor and usb breakout. It's larger than you think. Apple DVI to ADC Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) Hugh |

Thread Starter | Thanks, I wasn't sure if I was looking at the right thing. Apple didn't have any pictures. But I guess thats it. Man, $100 for a piece of crap. Thanks all, Dave |

| There's also one made by Gefen that is nicer than the apple one IMO. A little harder to find, but they show up on ebay every now and then. Your DVI to ADC converter should give you some more length, if that's not enough there are the elusive ADC extender cables out there too. I have a 10 foot ADC extender that I got off of ebay. |
