Cubase 5 quantize anchors

Hi there,

I have a question that I'm hoping a Cubase user can help me with. I keep getting these annoying vertical blue lines on audio files (seems to happen after I've minimized audio files). I believe these are called "quantize anchors" and audio files that have them snap to some weird position if you try and move them to another track - not even sure what it is snapping to (definately not latency compensation). I can't seem to find any information on this in the manual (I've looked up quantize anchors, assuming that is what they are called). If anyone has any information on this feature(?) and specifically how to disable it, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Jon

I think you mean the lines which represent the first "1" after the beginnigng of the recording, when you dont start recording on the grid.

just cut there and they wont bother you anymore

thanks Jaques, but no these are not the same thing as what you are describing except that they look the same. I am not activating record while in play mode, and the horizontal blue lines that I am referring to only appear after I have minimized audio files.

Yeah, this happens when you bounce audio tracks in any way. Cubase marks the place where the the audio track crosses the nearest bar, beat or quantize setting depending what it is set to. I think if you grab the audio track to the right of the blue line then the track snaps to the beat at the blue line. Left of the blue line then the start of the track is snapped to the beat.

Not sure if you can disable it though. Anyways, it is a really handy feature but if it is annoying you could always turn off "snap to grid" and you can then move the audio tracks freely.

If it is snapping to a weird position then check your snap setting on the tool bar.

The snap point is a marker within an audio event (or clip,
see below). This is used as a reference position when you
are moving events with snap activated, so that the snap
point is “magnetic” to whatever snap positions you have
selected.

By default, the snap point is set at the beginning of the audio
event, but often it is useful to move the snap point to a
“relevant” position in the event, such as a downbeat, etc.

1. Activate the “Show Audio Event” option on the toolbar,
so that the event is displayed in the editor.

2. Scroll so that the event is visible, and locate the “S”
flag in the event. If you haven’t adjusted this previously, it will be located at the beginning of the event.

3. Click on the “S” flag and drag it to the desired position.

When you drag the snap point, a tooltip shows its current position (in the
format selected on the Sample Editor ruler).

Hi, thanks for the responses.

Re: Snap Point. I realize that is what these vertical lines are called (not quantize anchors as I wrote in the subject), however these snap points appear about a 1/32nd note after the beginning of the audio event, but only after I have minimized audio files in the audio pool. As Lawrence wrote (& the manual says) "By default, the snap point is set at the beginning of the audio event". I have not been adjusting/moving them, they are just appearing in a position after the beginning of the audio event.

If anyone knows what I might be doing wrong or how I can correct this, I'd be really grateful!

Thanks again,
Jon

Not sure there was anything to get to the bottom of!

Are you having an issue with Cubase snap points?
