using a usb keyboard as a MIDI controller

I have been trying to use a Yamaha ypt 400 usb keyboard as a midi controller. I can't seem to get even the most basic of functionality.

I use OSX on an intel Macbook pro at the moment. I have the keyboard connected via standard usb cable.

The Computer sees that the keyboard is connected but i can't seem to figure out how to define it as a midi device, or use it in any way when connected.

Can anyone help me? all i want to do is plug in midi notes into Cubase. (version 4.5.2)
