Automated effect distorting throughout mix in Logic

Hey, there. This is my first post. Let me just say, I love these forums!

The problem I'm having is with an automated effect I'm using at the end of my project in Logic 8. It's a vocal transformer, which I'm using to drop the pitch at the end. Since I added it, I've been having issues with distortion throughout my mix, even when the effect is not in use. I mute the effect, and the distortion disappears. I do have the effect routed through Out 1-2. Could that be the problem? If so, what's the best alternate approach?

If the plug-in is bypassed there will be no distortion or other influence on the sound.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I do have the effect routed through Out 1-2.". Did you mean you have the effect inserted on the master output 1-2?

In any case, as long as you bypass the effect there will be no distortion.

Yes, the effect is inserted in the master output. It's set to fade in only at the end. There is no mix level setting on the vocal transformer, merely "pitch" and "formant." I have the pitch crawling up at the end, otherwise it's set to 0. When I bypass the effect, the distortion ceases. However, I need the effect to be on at the end. I can't find any way to automate the bypass switch. Is that what you're suggesting? If so, how do I do that?
