Did they actually change file format (that sounds really weird) or was it just the icon that changed ?

OUCH!

Must have taken a long time to convert them?

But why would iTunes convert to a Windows file format? You may have a virus my friend. I had a nasty virus a few years ago, that renamed all my wav files to *.exe

Lucky you backup all your projects regularly... right?

that's sort of odd, since WMA is a windows / microsoft format, not Apple... doubt it was the iTunes application itself doing that...

there was never a wma icon on any of my audio files until instantly after the i-tunes install.

if your on a pc deending on what you hve as the main audio player it will change the icons to.... if windows media player is your default...the icons change to that.... if itunes is your default the icons change to it....doesnt mean your file format has changed......if you change the default player than it will change the icons.....if you drop your files in a folder it should still ays its .wav

Probably means windows has decided to assert it's authority - chances are windows media player is still the default for playing Wavs. under file types in explorer (folder options maybe?) you should be able to choose default apps and icons.

Right-click on a wav file open with/choose program. Check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and choose the program you want to default to. Most likely WMP.

This happens because I-Tunes decided that it should be the default. Happens all the time if you're not careful. And some programs even does that without even asking. That is really bad.

It might seem like a big deal. It freaked me out as well the first time it happened. But it really does'nt matter. The only thing that changes is which program starts if you double click on a file.

you have WMP as well all windows systems have it and you cant delete it.....but to change the files back to what ever you want just right click it then in the drop menu pick choose program and hightlight what ever you want it to open with.

If you set your system to show the file suffixes (.exe, .wma, .doc, etc), and get in the habit of using the informative, useful, and sortable Details view in the File Explorer, you'll make your life a lot easier in the long run -- and you'll help reduce the possibility of confusion -- or accidentally clicking on a worm that's been named something like SexyBabes.jpg.exe -- which, unless you have the file suffixes view turned on, will look like SexyBabes.jpg to your dumbed down File Explorer.

It's always irritated me that Windows often defaults to the dumbest, least useful option in so many areas. XP is a great OS in many ways but the dumbing-down stuff that got glued based on requests by the marketing types really gets in the way more than it helps -- if you want to do real work with your computer.

FWIW, I despise programs that monkey around with my system settings without asking -- I can't even imagine installing a program that wants to move all your files around, retag, rename them, etc.

this does not work. tried it by selecting pro tools as the dafault player and all it did was open pro tools and give me an error saying the file you have selected is not a valid pro tools file.

Try the Windows Media Player instead. That's what it defaulted to initially and probably what you want.
