Computer wont communicate with interface

Hi.
I just recieved a cool new G4 Powermac desktop and everything is in order (audio software and hardware installed) but the motu 828 mkII interface wont be detected. the computer just wont find it. worked fine yesterday with my powerbook and when transferring data from external HD. Any suggestions?

Thanks

- is the firewirecable connected properly and motu 828 power switched on ? (sometimes it´s the most obvious thing, you know ?)

- did you install the motu desk software ?

- does the computer detect the firewire port ? Check it using "about this mac" (osX) or "system profiler" (os9)

- what did you eat for lunch ?

- restart

Cheers,
Bill

its all switched on and connected, i used the exact same cable and port to transfer data from the external HD to the desktop. Cant think what could be wrong. It must be the ham and cheese sandwich i had for lunch.
HELP ME!! its driving me mad.

You said "audio hardware installed". The MOTU you're using is a Firewire device, correct? Is there any other hardware installed/attached? Check the MOTU driver version.

That G4 could possibly need a Firewire or Firmware update too, just maybe. Or you may need to trash all MOTU preferences and reinstall the latest MOTU driver. Do other Firewire devices work on that port? Or have you tried both already?

Ive installed the relevant software i know for sure. I have used the same ports and cable to transfer data from external HD to the computer so i know thats fine, dont see why the interface wont be seen by the computer. Ive bought a protools rig anyway so firewire wont matter but i still would like it to work!! any suggestions?

Thanks

Without having it here in front of me, it's hard to say for sure. Does it still work with your other computer?
