Thread Starter | midi question: an additional note is being added...
I'm not a midi head, so apologies if this is a dumb question. I've had this problem in logic and now PT 8 (I'm on a mac). trying to quantize a midi piano performance, but sounds like there are two attack notes at the top of the notes when I quantize. without, it sounds fine though. if I erase the actual midi note I you can see the second attack note present (it will play too!) with a much shorter duration though. I forgot how I resolved this in logic, but if anybody knows why this is happening in PT and can help me resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. thanks. oto

It sounds like there are duplicate notes on your MIDI tracks. Sometimes this happens when you do a second take on a MIDI track, and the data is merged with the original track rather than overwriting it. In Logic there is an option that determines how "overdubs" are treated in the case of MIDI tracks, and the choice is between merging, overwriting, and forming take folders. I don't know about PT8. Another reason this kind of thing might happen is if you are somehow getting duplicate notes while you record, e.g., the keyboard is transmitting on two channels or something like that. hth, -synthoid

thanks man. I don't think it has anything to do with merging performances, as they are on the attack of all the midi notes (even on a new playlist). however, I did find this: under event in the menu, there is a "remove duplicate function." this seems to have cured it. so maybe it is a case of my controller adding a bonus. oto |

Some synth instruments need to be set for "Local Control Off" or you get multiple notes as you describe.
