Pro Tools punch in level is lower

Using PT HD 7.4 Ocassionally I'm punching in drums and the signal is significantly lower.... we erase the punch and redo and it's fine.... thought it was the players at first... but questioning it now.... anyone?

I'm on 8 now, but when I was running 7, this never happened to me.
What might be interesting (to try as an experiment) is to
statically assign the voice for the track and see if that makes
a difference.

Most of the time when this happens is just that the drummer is not playing @ the same level of intensity which is pretty easy to happen; & then when u go back & listen or say "Lets get it again, they noticw & play where they were @ 1st...

If thatz not the case, then u have a weird problem...

It could be easily the drummer.
Other thing to check out in the preferences is whether your play and rec faders are linked or not, because if not, it may cause this. Of course just a quick guess.
