Thread Starter | New MOBO with 4 PCI (not PCIE) slots?
Can anyone recomend a specific model New MOBO with 4 PCI (not PCIE) slots? Also with a couple of PCIE as well. I've used ASUS for years and have had good luck. I'll be running Cubase 5, 2 UAD 1 PCI, 1 MOTU 2408 MK III with the 424 PCI card, and Protools on a Delta 44 PCI. I can upgrade some of the PCI cards to PCIE if need be, but I'm trying to save a few bucks. Not sure if an expansion PCI chassis would be the ticket. For that price I could cross grade my PCI cards I would think. TIA! |

HI, i am assuming if you are buying a new board you are also buying a new processor. in that case you would silly to not go for the core i7. and max is 2 PCI slots. ideally you dump the UAD1's and get 1 UAD2, a UAD2 solo is more powerful than 2 uad1 buy a mbox mini for PT. its just not worth the issues and having to go back 1-2 gen CPU for a 4 pci slot board. the other option is a magma chassis type deal. The ASUS Commando sounds like the ticket! I know I should go with the UAD 2, but I'm trying to save a few bucks, can you blame me??? ![]() I've had very good luck with ASUS, I'll put an order in. Of course I'm planning on upgrading the CPU, VGA card (one slot dual monitors) and RAM. Quick question, are you using the commando with the UAD PCI cards? For what its worth, the other day before I started a session I did the bozo no-no of upgrading to SP3 because my system was running like crap. I got the blue screen of death and had to load my MOTU cards into my back up system to keep the session rolling. It was two hours of sweeting bullets, but I go through the session. I had my GF take my PC into the shop and dude got it running GREAT! No glitches while recording and today I pulled up final full blown mixes off the USB2 spare drive and it worked GREAT! Got through a 4 hour recall session without a hitch. I may put off the upgrade for a few weeks now. Thanks! Matt | |
