Which one should I buy if I am using Logic and Final cut? I record at 96k and mix out of the box... Should I got quad or 8? which processor speed?

Thanks for you time.

I guess I am torn between the 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and the 2.26GHz Quad-8 Core Intel Xeon. That is all I can afford right now.

What are pros and cons?

I did do a search... The damn things are so new it's a hard call. Some people say get he quad because logic wont use all 8 cores. Some people say when snow leopard comes out its gonna change everything. especially the 8 core. these answers are from people who dont have the new 2009 macs.

In my humble opinion (and my experience) 8 slower cores are better then 4 faster ones.
Also, you can scrimp on memory and drives now, and upgrade those later. When our studio bought our MacPro, the drives really pushed the price up.

I just ordered mine (lowest 8 core).
I'll be using it with Pro Tools 8 and Cubase 5 tho.

8 core if you are video editing with it as well, quad core if it's only logic

I bought the 2009 Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon system (8-core). I use it with Logic, Superior Drummer, Apogee Duet, Euphonix Mc Mix, and a slew of plug ins. Upgraded Ram to 16 Gigs and put in several terrabyte drives, including one for my Time machine backups. It is a wonderful system, and certainly more than I need at this point.

Sure I would have loved to have a faster 8 core system but the reality is that this system will and does work great for my needs. Plus the money I saved I used to upgrade my memory and drives. Bear in mind there are alot of happy Logic users who have less powerful systems, cannot speak to your query regarding Final Cut.

I don't think you will regret purchasing the base model 8 core system.

Absolutely. Zips right along with nary a hiccup, I cannot find anything to fault with it.

Logic still takes a little while to load, but once loaded, it's off to the races...
