Studio One comments

As far as importing and exporting, Studio One can import WAV (BWF and RF64), AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and MP3 audio files, as well as Standard MIDI Files. It can export Wave, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, and MP3, and of course SMFs.

Someone asked "is it possible to have external hardware inserts in each track? Will the automatic delay compensation also compensate hardware inserts?"

Studio One version 1.0 will not have hardware inserts a la Cubase SX3 and later.

What about omf or aaf. It would be great if you could import Cubase and Nuendo projects into it.

cool Studio One feature

Here's a cool Studio One feature:

In most recording applications, audio tracks directly use your hardware audio device’s channels. In Studio One, there is a layer of software I/O channels between your hardware audio-device channels and your tracks. This setup affords advantages over the traditional method.

For instance, let’s say you produce a song in your studio, using a multichannel interface, then take your song file to your friend’s studio, where you will use a different audio interface. Simply connect your friend’s hardware audio-device channels to the correct software I/O channels. When you get back to your studio, the original I/O configuration for the song will automatically be loaded for you, as if you never left. You can do the same thing if you need to open the song on your laptop using its built-in audio hardware.

This is possible because Studio One stores I/O configurations with your song, per computer and per audio-device driver, ensuring that your song remains highly portable and is never “broken” by changing audio devices.

*Vinyl Record skip/stopping sound*

You might want to fax the developers a recommendation for "External Inserts" or v1.0 might be the only version it ever sees. At least patch it into v1.2 or something. My excitement has deflated like a balloon or better yet a silicone breast implant!

I do realize it took Cakewalk 2 versions and a few more updates to get it right, but I stress that this is a MUST if they want to claim that they took the BEST features from the leading DAW's. Plain and simple.

+10,000. Im NOT going to let my external verbs just sit there because a DAW maker doesnt think external gear is not needed since their DAW is so great

OH well, it was too good to be true, back to Cubase for me

It looks like they've been paying more attention to Steinbergs user forum than Steinberg.

Looking forward to this as it seems to have a load of features that Cubase STILL hasn't got!

Fingers crossed the automation is up to scratch and they get the external instrument/fx sorted...

When talked to a guy at presonus the other day, he told me that you could hook up external hardware like eq's , fx, and more.

Looks great , the UI is very much like Logic ! They might just entice people who wanted Logic for windows over to the Studio One ......

I think this is great for competition and Presonus should be applauded ....

I love how this looks. Been a cubase user for a long time but would love to try this DAW out. The drag and drop is real nice.

answering Studio One questions

I saw a few new Studio One questions since last Friday so I'm jumping back in. (For those who missed my earlier posts, I am the PreSonus marketing communications mgr.)

Three new questions ya'll asked:
1. Q: is this supported by presonus? or the company making it?

A: In this case, the two are one and the same. PreSonus owns and will support Studio One. We have formed PreSonus Software Ltd, and the programmers are part of that. So PreSonus IS the company making Studio One, and we have direct access to the engineers.

2. Q: Will it allow the use of simultaneous multiple interfaces?

A: Yes, assuming the interface drivers are mutually compatible, the same as with other DAWs.

3. Q: Any video support for us film music composers?
Not in version 1. Just speculating, as I have not heard anything promised along those lines, but since Wolfgang created Nuendo, it seems a fair guess that we could add video support in the future. I agree, I'd like that feature.

i think this has the potential to be an amazing app

almost all of the applications out there now have been built up over the years so there's lots of redundant coding, e.g. logic!!!

if it's in the same price ball park and doesn't use dongle then i could be up for it
also, we need at least 2 active licenses at the same time; laptop & desktop
