Sonalksis Group Buy on LUG

Hi All,

Just a really quick heads up:

The Logic Users Group currently has a group buy of all Sonalksis plug-ins (including an exclusive bundle for every plug-in) on the new LUG site at: Logic Users Group | Home — this is open to all registered members of the LUG web forums.

Direct link to the group buy page if you're already a registered member of the LUG web forum: Logic Users Group | Sonalksis Group Buy

Thanks for the heads up Orren. I just registered over there and will keep an eye on it. I wanted the essentials bundle a while back but talked myself out of it, as I didn't need it that bad. I've got UAD cards in my studio and home machines but would like something for my occasional laptop use. Unfortunately, 300(USD) would probably be max and it looks like even the group buy price now would still convert to 456 (unless I'm doing something wrong). Not sure how group buys for that sort of thing usually turn out, so maybe that kind of discount is expecting too much.

Take Care

It will probably get to the 50% off level, is my guess. keep an eye on it.

FWIW every LUG group buy I've ever seen or participated in has eventually reached the maximum discount.

I'll go back and read through most of the stuff later anyway, but I'm guessing it helps the rest of the buyers if I go ahead and get mine in without waiting for that half-price point? It sounded like you can back out anyway, but the idea of that just seems kind of slimy to me.

Should I wait?

Thanks!

Well, as one of the people hosting it, it goes without saying that I want to see the buy do as well as possible. In other words, I'm biased—Sonalksis are great people, and we get a tiny sliver to pay for our server.

That said, I give this same advice to everyone, even for non-LUG group buys people ask me about: if you know you want some Sonalksis stuff, go ahead and sign up now. You're guaranteed a better price than you'll get anywhere else no matter what, and if it goes even cheaper, that's an added bonus!

If you've heard good things about Sonalksis, but you're not sure if you really need the stuff and are mostly just interested because it is cheap, I recommend you download the 30-day fully functional demos. You'll only have a couple of weeks if you want to get in on the buy, but really a few days of putting them on your own projects will let you know how good they are, and if you like what they add to your music. If you like what they do, then jump in. If you can take it or leave it, wait and see. And of course if they don't do anything for you, you can pass without wondering what you missed out on!

As for the getting out of the buy, you're right, it is possible, but we only included that for people who experience an unexpected hardship, and so on. Obviously, if you sign up for the buy, your word should be your bond. If you have an emergency of course we understand. If you just decide the discount isn't good enough and want out, then we'll still honor your request to leave the buy, but you'll potentially be blacklisted from future group buys. Obviously, developers won't agree to run them if half the signups leave!

Thanks,
Orren

Thanks for the clarification Orren.

I'll probably keep an eye on it like I was before. I know that bundle is well worth what it goes for. I really liked what that EQ did on drums in the 4kHz and above range and I still don't have a nice dedicated gate plug. I just had to decide what it was really worth to me as I already had all the UADs. I'd probably be buying as much for the "new toy" factor as any necessity.

Thanks, and thanks again for organizing the whole thing!

Wow...thanks for the heads up, I'm in. I had demoed a few of their plugs a couple months ago and was close to getting the compressor and TBK bundle. But I had just bought the Abbey Road bundle, Waves V6 update and some UAD stuff, so I let it slide...even though I thought that SV-315 comp had a unique sound which I liked quite a bit, as well as a great user interface.

And while I've got a few filters, that TBK stuff is so fast and intuitive and just plain fun. Didn't really have enough time to put the EQ through its paces. 50% off would be stupid cheap for this stuff, so now I'm looking at some of their other plugs. I'm intrigued by the CQ1 and DQ1...worth demoing? Anybody here use these? I take it they're not intended primarily for mastering use?

Again, I "have a dog in this hunt" as the saying goes, so you know where I stand. But I own them, and I would say absolutely demo them! I own them (again, from before any group buys, I just love their stuff!) and think that they are great for precision sculpting. If you want to add just a hint of "thump" or boost a really specific frequency and leave the rest untouched. At the same time, while the parameters allow for precision, they can also have their own sound—more transparent than the analog modeled stuff, but it can really get there. But you should definitely check out the demo—you may disagree with me, but at least then you'd know for sure!

Also, I should add that getting a higher discount level just became easier. We had users comment to us that they felt the higher discounts required too many points, so after discussing it with Sonalksis, they have agreed to cut the point totals required for the various discount levels in half. This means that the discount is already at 40%!

Sonalksis don't make a transient plug, as far as I know, maybe you were thinking of Sonnox? (who do).

the SV gate / eq / comp plugs get more use than any other native plugs on my system.
The gate especially is quite flexible.

Aha. Thanks. I thought Sonalksis were the folks who made the plus for toontrack superior, which does have a transient plug.

I've been using the SV plugins for a month now and wow are they good. I know there are technical explanations that show all eq plugins to be able to achieve the same sounds, I've read the stuff right here on this forum. But the Sonalksis just seem to make it easier to achieve the best settings for the track. It's almost hard to get a bad sound. I'm really very impressed with them.

i'm demoing the compressor... I definitely am digging it.

question for you MCU owners... when I am in plugin mode (using it in HUI) do you know how I can change the output and threshold? they seem unreachable on each of the "pages" and it only goes all the way up or all the way down when I click it's respective pan pot control.

question...

Are the sonalksis group buy prices on the group buy page in Euros? Its not exactly specified...

For example, I noticed the prices for the essentials plugins are 209.99 on the group buy page, which is the same price in euros from the sonalksis online store. The USD store has them priced at 259.99.

Am I correct then in assuming that the current price in dollars for these plugins at 45% off is 142.99?

Just want to be crystal clear on the prices here, thanks!

When purchasing the Sonalksis group buy, is the license good for using them on both my PC and Mac?

You are correct, the pricing is in Euros. Sorry it's not obvious on the first group buy page! When you click the "enter group buy" button, the chart with checkboxes has the Euro symbol by all the prices, and the paragraph below the chart explains that all prices are in euros and links to a number of currency converters.

So you're correct about the pricing, but remember, currency changes daily. So the day of purchase it might be a bit more, or it might be a bit less. But it certainly will be around that amount, it won't change that much.

That's a good question! I'm pretty sure the answer is no for individual plug-ins; I think you get every format for one platform, but not both. I'm not sure about bundles, you might get all formats for all platforms. But I'm not sure, my suggestion is that you email Sonalksis and ask—they're very responsive.

For those interested I heard back from Sonalksis concerning multi platform use:

Yes, when you purchase any of our products, your licences will be valid for both Mac and PC platforms.

Regards,

Sonalksis Support.

got a chance to test out the eq and comp a bit more. I delved into the setup section and saw that I could turn off the display of the eq, something I had been thinking would be a cool option all day before I got a chance to work with it. Thats awesome!

I'm having a hard time hearing the differences between the 2 compressor settings...

ugh, just a few more days to decide!! Its been between this and a URS comp and eq. The decision is driving me insane!

As promised - in like Flynn!

It was at 489 points, so I got it to my 50% by going ahead in (wanted the Essentials bundle for 12pts). Hope everything goes smoothly.

Thanks again for pointing it out over here,

George
