What are the problems you are having? Is it installing the software, running the software, or running plug-ins?

I myself would love to see a native x64 version of the software, but there is no reason as to why a 64-bit O/S cannot run 32-bit software (in emulation).

There would still be a limitation to Pro Tools of not being able to address more than 2gb per application, but you'd still be able to use the rest of your system's memory for other purposes, and ultimately get some extra performance from your extra RAM. Of course, Vista isn't an O/S that most people would recommend for music production, so just be aware of any Vista issues that can arise.

My personal advice would be to wait until W7 is released, and then get the 64-bit version of this. Hopefully by this time, there will be more native 64-bit applications.

On the DUC they were looking for people to beta test in "all flavours of Vista", so my guess is that they have something that works pretty well with 64bit somewhere in the pipeline.

I too would like to go 64bit. I've got 6GB of RAM on my i7 and I'm only using 3.dfegad

Leopard is a 64bit OS. ;-)

I'm confident that Digi will come out with a version of PT that
will work on the 64bit version of Vista. However, I'm supposing
that you're wanting a 64bit version of PT ?

If so, I'm curious if it's because you're running out of virtual
memory using samplers ?

It does. Look on the DUC and you will find the bleeding edge crew.

PT is not supported on any 64bit windows. Digidesign will never support XP64 just as very few manufactures ever have and few if any that dont already would now. As to vista, i dont know what may or may not happen. As shane said it does work but i wouldn't count on anything official in the short term.

PT will run as a 32bit app on OS X which is 64bit so you will be able to access a full 4GB RAM in PT and not be limited by the system. Assuming you have enough memory above 4GB for the system and anything else you have anyway.

i don see the 4GB memory limit for PT an issue yet but it can be as an entire system limit.

My experience (with PT on Leopard) has been that you can't get 4GB .
It's more like 3.6GB .. which I assume is either the text segments of
the program itself or some combination of kernel reserved addresses
plus the size of the program itself.

I'm expecting Digi to support Win7 64bit ... and I'd have done the same
given the mis-steps of both XP-64 and Vista64.

C'mon man, 3 gb of ram is more than enough, stop being concerned about other people setups, stop being greedy. If you insist, you can overclock your ram to get the computer to run at 4 gb of ram, Ive done it before. I had a Intel E8500 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo and 4 gb of corsair ram running at 3.6 Ghz and a reading of 4. something gb of ram.

I setup up a dual boot/hard drive system (thanks to those here!) Running Vista 64 on one HD and the XP sp3 on the other. It works great. I have my cpu maxed out to 8 gigs and it is kind of lame that XP won't recognize all of it. But I have a UAD2 card so the 3ish gigs are more than enough.

Good Luck Man!

AFAIK, 64-bit is support is inevitable, and is intended for Win7. See here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/new-p...er-survey.html. The fact that anyone at all can get it going on XP 64 shows that Digi has already taken some steps to make it compatible.
