Stupid New iMac, Stupid Old 002... Firewire Help!

So I just received a new 24" iMac as a replacement for my defective old white duocore iMac. I realized today that the new iMacs came out with only a single Firewire 800 port... along with 4 (empty in my case) usb 2.0 ports.

Since I'm using PT|LE with a 002r, it appears as though I'll have to buy a converter or a new firewire cable that goes from 9 to 6 pins. Doesn't seem like a major problem...

BUT

The thing I'm mostly pissed about is the fact that I just bought a Glyph external hard drive to go along with all this. Isn't the magic of these drives based on their firewire performance with Pro Tools? Am I now forced into using (slow) USB 2.0 with my external hard drives, or is there some secret Firewire 800 Hub that I just haven't been able to find on the internet?

One other option... Is it possible to daisychain my 002r into my glyph external hard drive via firewire 400, with the drive plugged into my mac with firewire 800? This just seems wrong, but it also seems like my only option right now!

If anyone has any experience or expertise on this issue, I'd really appreciate the input. My old computer was defective and shutting off every 20 minutes, but I could at least plug my 002 into it!

thanks!

You have to research before buying.

Daisychaining should pose no problem, but you can also try the USB connection for the Glyph, it may work perfectly...

Using USB harddrives isn't supported by Digidesign.

Just daisy-chain and it should work: iMac -> Firewire HD -> 002

If your harddrive only has FW400, get a FW800/FW400 cable and you should be fine. The speed of the FW bus always is determined by the slowest device. As your 002 is FW400, all the devices will run at FW400 speed.

Yeah... normally I'd have thought this through, but like I said... it was a warranty issue that was pretty much out of my hands...

Will give the daisy chaining through firewire a shot tonight and report back!

Thanks so far!
