Pro Tools 8 le problems (I know, join the line...)

Hey slutz,

well I finally took the plunge and upgraded to OSX Leopard and Pro Tools 8 le at home, so I can get acquainted before we upgrade at the studio. And suprise suprise, there's a few issues!

The main one bugging me is that when playback stops because of low CPU, in the bigger sessions, I lose audio playback all together and have to quit and re-open to get it back. It still goes through the motions, meters are flashing, cursor is scrolling through the edit window, but there's no playback

Anyone having the same problem or have any suggestions?

Cheers,

Adam.

Ok, slight update, its the message "CPU useage is holding off USB audio" that kills it.

Have you trashed your preferences folder and cleared out your digi databases
(off your drives).

PT8 LE has been working just fine for me (iMac, Macbook pro and
Mac Pro).

Thanks for the replies, I havn,t trashed the prefs yet, will give that ago today.

I'm running an intel iMac 2.4 ghz core 2 duo with 2 gig ram. I occasionally had problems with playback when running PT 7.4 and OSX Tiger, but never where the audio would cut out unless I restart like this.

The computer does seem to be running a little slower since I installed PT8 and Leopard, which is worrying. Do you guys know of any tweaks for Leopard to make it run smoother/better with PT 8?

I've ordered some more Ram to see if it runs any better with 4gb in.

Why are upgrades never simple?? Looks like another day of tweaking ahead.........Damn you digidesign for making oh so tempting new versions of software!

Check ALL your plug-ins. And I mean ALL of them.

Do you use Melodyne?

Hopefully your not running the Session on the main OS drive? If your using a USB HD maybe its too slow with its data and is giving you the CPU errors?

I'm running off a Glyph fw800 drive, so don't think that should be the problem.

I do use melodyne plugin, but there's no instances in the song I'm checking with, could it still cause problems? I was having problems with DigiRewire when I first loaded PT 8, so checked I had the latest melodyne version etc.

Just moved pretty much all my "additional" plugins (non-protools/factory/toolkit) to an unused folder and it seems to run quite smoothly now. Which means I have to work out which of the little buggers it is!

Gonna have to check all versions with the ones on the DUC. I just wanna play with all the new PT plugs, instruments and oh so shiny features damn it!

Yep. 99.99999% of all problems I've seen poeple having seem to have with PT8 revolves around Melodyne/Rewire.

You need to update Melodyne to the latest version.

And no, you don't need to be running it in a song. Some other conflict going on there. Don't ask me why.

You might even find that once you remove the Melodyne Rewire you'll be fine and can use pretty much everything else.
