Does Cubase 4 or 5 sound better than SX3?

Hi all, I am a long time user of cubase and specifically cubase sx3 for the past number of years. I am happy with sx3, its rock stable on my machine on XP sp3 but I am thinking of an upgrade to 4 or 5.
Apart from the obvious niceties like drop and drag plugins and improved interface and routing....does cubase 4 or 5 sound any better? Does it sound enough better to warrant an upgrade?
thanks!

Sounds the SAME to me here. C4 was a rewrite supposedly but they didnt touch the audio engine as far as I can tell at all.

AFAIK there was a rewrite of the audio engine between SX3 and 4. Not so between 4 and 5.
I don't know if this is an audible difference or not but I don't care.

Free routing pulled me from SX3 to 4.1

tuning and IR verb was enough for me to upgrade to 5.

I just went from SX3 to Cubase 5 and I can't tell a difference in sound. The included plug-ins and instruments are a nice addition though.

Audio engine hasn't changed from SX3 to C4, but the channel EQ has (only on the full version though, C4/5 studio has SX3 EQ) and is improved to a large extend.

While playback/mixing, 3 sounds horrible to me and found out the sound changes after mixdown (turns to what it actually should have been) but this simply didn't do for me at the time. I didn't try 4 or 5 but thats what they probably fixed if they changed the audio engine. I say go for the upgrade.

Is it true that Nuendo 3 has the same audio engine as sx4?

SX3 and Nuendo 3 share the same audio engine as well as Cubase4 and Nuendo4.

I wonder why? This has not been my experience.

I had the same problem with Nuendo3. But only with no realtime mixdown. With realtime mixdown everything was ok.
