Installing Mac OS 10.5, a little concerned

So, I bought my new copy of Leopard. Tried to install. The installer told me that I had to reformat my drive before I could install. I found a link that explains how to basically clone your drive to an external using disk utility, install leopard, and then restore all of your data. I had to run out this morning and buy a new external drive. I needed one anyways (been flying without a parachute for awhile now), but I didn't want one right this minute.

Anyone else been through this process? I would prefer not to have to spend 10 hours reinstalling all of my apps.

As long as you have enough room on your main drive, choosing the "Archive and Install" method worked the best for me (my setup's working functionally as well as a 'clean' install, and I didn't have to spend days reinstalling stacks of DVDs of Logic Pro, Final Cut Studio, and tons of sample libaries) and didn't require buying another hard drive (although making an 'image' of your entire system drive and backing it up to the external drive FIRST is a VERY GOOD IDEA, just in case).

I figured as much. I am actually happy I was put in this situation. For the first time, I have all of my projects backed up properly. It is good.

Install was fine. Everything got restored the way it was, which makes me very happy, and I now have a fully functional back up drive that I can start up off of if needed.

I didn't have enough space on my internal drive to do the archive and install method, but it all worked out in the end. After 5 hours, all is well.
