Noob PT question....

This is probably the most basic of basics, but every once in a while it keeps coming back to haunt me so I'm here humbly asking for the answer.
Sometimes, seemingly randomly, PT stops returning to the original start play location once I stop playing the tracks. For example-normally, I play the session starting at, lets say, 00:00 and when I stop the playback, the session will begin playback at 00:00 again unless I change the start location.
Currently, when I stop playback, it will begin playback at where I stopped it the last time. ...so if I played the session from 00:00 to 00:58, the next time I hit the space bar to play, it will begin playback at 00:58 instead of 00:00.

I've looked and played with the items in the options menu with no luck and am wondering if it's a glitch or if I'm accidentally hitting something to change the settings. I'm guessing it's me and not PT, but I'd love to have the answer.

thanks and sorry for the noob question.

cheers.

Hey there,

yeah this is a common thing. What has probably happened is you have nudged the N key while hitting space bar. This changes where playback will be resumed from, either where you first selected or where you stopped playback. On a labeled keyboard it is labeled "insertion follows PB".

Now, as long as you have shortcuts enabled you can hit this key again or go to- preferences- Operation, and deselect/select "timeline insertion/play start marker follows playback.

Hope that is clear enough, I suck at written explanations

If you use PT8, there is now a button in the toolbar for this. Like this you can see immediately if "Timeline Insertion/Play Start Marker Follows Playback" is on or off.
