Test machine: Mac Pro 2x3.46 6core / 48GB Ram / 10.6.8 / 256 sample buffer @ 48k I can get 141 of these running.. and that's only 3/4 of the machine as Logic can only see 16 of the 24 threads available. Honestly, it's not a realistic 'realworld' test whatsoever. The fact is, I can choke Logic with an Omnisphere and a few Kontakts depending on what's happening, yet I could load up 35 audio tracks and put 15 space-designers on each rail and it works.. At the end of the day, Logic's Multi-core handling is quite poor and inconsistent. It's really easy to pin a single thread while the other cores are doing nothing. Whatever happened to Grandcentral dispatch? ![]() -Neil |

| why do i have so bad Performance?
Test Machine: Mac Pro 2009 2,26 Ghz 8 Core 24 gb ram SSD OSX 10.6.8 Logic: 9.1.7 i/o: 512 Buffer: mid Threads: 16 Track Mute/Solo behaviour: CPU saving Software Monitoring: off ESX virtual memory: on 64 Bit: After Reeboot max 102, then after 1 Minute only 92, then after 10 Minutes only 90, then after 5 minutes only 82 stable Cpu temp between 37 - 49 celsius (istat) 32 Bit: without reeboot: max 100, after a minute 97, after 5 minutes: 92 stable Cpu temp between 42 - 51 celsius no difference between usbpre2 audio or internal audio Anyone suggestions what iam doing wrong? i thougt with my machine 115 Tracks would be possible. i did an efi update to 2010 mac pro 5.1 but i do not think i this is the reason. i realised performance really slowed down over the years (i used osx 10.5.8) therefore i installed 10.6.8, logic and everything fresh on SSD! also tried to shutdown second monitor. with treads "automatic" is even worse, only about 60 tracks trying now with my old osx 10.5.8 HDD and logic 9.1.5 (when i switch between threads automatic and 16 it takes MUCH more time then with the new ssd system) starting with 88 tracks, after 3 minutes 80 tracks stable (not really, stops after 2 minutes) so, how can i get better performance??? thanks in advance! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: i cleanded the inside of my mac. heatsink of processor A (where memory 1,2,3,4 is) was much hotter than B. There was really not much dust in there. After cleaning i got folowing results: 64 bit: starting with about 10 loops with 109 tracks, then got nearly stable at 101 tracks 32 bit: starting with 3 loops at 106, then about 10 at 102 tracks, 30 loops at 96 tracks, stable with 92 tracks better performance only for 64 bit maybe i have to change thermal paste and check everything is screwed tight etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd Edit: set the fan speeds very high with smc fanspeed cpu temp between 26 - 29 celsius got now 105 tracks stable with 64 bit only 2 loops or so with 109 tracks |

| Woohooo! Just ordered a used 8 core 2.93 (on the above charts recommendation), and added 32 GB RAM and an SSD system drive, I'll probably get a velociraptor audio drive too (currently got a raptor).. Can't wait! ![]() I'll be upgrading from the shortest intel MacPro on the graph, to the third longest ![]() Funny thing though, with a computer, the good thing about having a fast one is that you don't notice it ![]() And knowing my luck, the same thing will happen as when I bought my macbook, look out for new models next month! matt

| Mac Mini Slower Than Macbook Pro!
Does anyone have any idea why the 2.0 quad inside the Macbook Pro will allow more tracks than the 2.0 quad inside the Mac Mini Server? Do we expect the Ivy Bridge 2.3 quad inside a Mac Mini to be slower than the Sandy Bridge 2.3 quad in the Macbook Pro when the time comes?

Have you put 16 gigs of ram in it? I am thinking about getting the same 21.5 inch 2.8 imac. How does it perform with regular Logic projects? | |
