Mathew Lane - version 2 of the DrMS spatial processor plugin

Build on a completely new internal algorithm, version 2 of the DrMS spatial processor plugin sounds even better then before. The new engine allows to create wider and deeper soundstages while, of course, maintaining the excellent mono compatibility DrMS is known for.

DrMS v2.0 is familiar in operation to v1.1, with some cosmetic enhancements made to the GUI. The new algorithm however makes it easier and faster to achieve the desired results, with great sounds already when using just the 4 central green rotaries.

DrMS v2.0 also features a new installer, making installation a breeze.

DrMS v2.0 has the following features:
- Completely new & improved soundengine
- Enhanced GUI
- MS encoding & decoding
- Spatial audio processing: Zoom in, add Depth, change Width or any combination and more
- Resonant HPF, TiltEQ and Delay on each of the four processing sections
- Full mono compatibility
- Autogain circuit for easy level matched A/B comparision between original and processed signal
- Smart MCU control surface layout with clear 6-character parameter names and bank organisation
- Wide range of applications for mixing, mastering and post production, going from simple MS encoding/decoding, over stereo field and depth enhancement, to fixing mono compatibility issues and more
- Easy installation with new installer

All current DrMS users will receive v2.0 for free by email, directly from Mathew Lane.

DrMS has recently been used extensively in the sound design and music recreation by engineer/producer Emre Ramazanoglu for the movie 'Ghost', created by Alexander McQueen and PUMA to celebrate the launch of their first sport-fashion apparel collection, featuring the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. A teaser is available at the Mathew Lane website to hear DrMS in action.

DrMS runs as AU/VST2/RTAS plugin on OSX and as VST2/RTAS plugin on Windows.

DrMS v2.0 is immediately available for only 25euro (ex. VAT) at www.mathewlane.com . A demo version is also offered.

Mathijs,

I don't know how you did it, but I can definitely hear a difference. Great job! The central knobs also seem to offer a finer degree of control, although it may be my imagination...?

Thanks! The central knobs have a similar range as before actually, but with the new algorithm, the sound is more 'defined', so I can understand it feels like a finer degree of control

Is there a plan to deal with the demise of Pluggo? Will this be re-purposed as an actual "standalone" plug-in (ie, not requiring any 3rd party infrastructure) ?

Yes, a new 'standalone' version is in the make, no more need for Pluggo or anything else. This will ensure future compatibility for all users. Of course, we're also adding some new functionality
Should be done in a few months (aiming at early october), it's a lot of work

Excellent. With the present v2 I can only run one instance.

VST on Mac is coming in the new Pluggo-free version, currently there's no VST support for Mac (Pluggo limitation).

Pluggo Runtime is like a specific wrapper. It only wraps MAX/MSP programmed plugins into the common plugin formats. But it doesn't support the latest VST implementations anymore on OSX.

So to ensure full native compatibility with all plugin formats, DrMS v3 is recoded outside of MAX/MSP.

V3 should be ready around early october.

DrMS v3 will be slightly more expensive then the current DrMS, as Pluggo-free coding involves a lot more work. I will keep the price very competitive and offer a very fair upgrade plan to ensure all existing customers get a great deal as 'early adopters'. V2 customers will not have payed any more in total then new first time v3 customers.

Sounds like a verry interesting plugin.
Do you use this on the main bus? Or on inserts??

Its really wide-ranging in application - I tend to use it mainly on individual tracks, but its definitely got several mastering applications!! I think I've used it on some track(s) in pretty much every mix I've done since I got it!

So will this be less CPU intensive?

I get a ton of freezing in Pro Tools with V2, almost makes it unusable if I have very much going on in the mix

Yeah i've heard good things, but DrDMS seems to be extremely CPU-heavy.
Is there any chance this will get better with future updates?

Ill order it anyway though.

Yes, v2 still used Pluggo, which wasn't too compatible with ProTools anymore at the end. The current v3 is a true native plugin, works great in ProTools again!

Regarding the CPU use: DrMS is a quite heavy plugin, but we didn't want to sacrifice sound quality. CPU use doesn't seem to be an issue on modern computers, but slightly older ones will notice

There is a future CPU performance optimisation possible, but we're first dealing with Cubase 5.5 compatibility.

The v3 thread is here:
