Question Mytek master clocking the MOTU 828 and / or direct into Macbook Pro?

I did a search on this and couldn't really find anything conclusive so here are a couple of questions.

1. First, I am using the MOTU 828 mk I FW interface and would like to get a Mytek Stereo192 ADC and go from the SPDIF out of the Mytek into the 828 SPDIF (there is no word clock on the 828 mk I). Will the 828 clock slave to the Mytek? I have read on a thread that the MOTU will not slave through the SPDIF to an external clock. So will this work? Also, if it does work, will this improve the quality of the DA on the 828 as there is a more stable clock being sync'd to? (being that the clock info is embedded in the SPDIF bitstream).

2. I am also thinking of going from the Mytek ADC directly into my Macbook Pro (I'm sure some of you have seen the ad they have flashing on here) How well does this work? I know that Lavry has said in their literature that this is possible but was told by Lavry support that they cannot guarantee "bit-accuracy". Is this also the case with the Mytek?

Thanks.

eh? well i've had my 828 mk1 slaving to an external clock from my focusrite trakmaster's digital out and it was fine.

your motu has to slave to the incoming spdif signal, without a clock the spdif would not work if it was not slaved to external sync as it would have to resample somehow.

The mytek can be plugged direct into your macbook as the input is both analogue / digital. just get one of these and stick it on the end of a toslink cable and you are off.

Thanks for your replies. It's good to know the the 828 mk1 will slave.. that was really my main concern.

macleod, I believe the clock signal is also embedded in the SPDIF bit stream so when just syncing two devices a word clock is not really needed. Regarding going direct to the Macbook pro, I was just wondering if it was "bit accurate" and how the latency is?

thanks

clock tick tock

Hello,

Sorry my post wasnt clear i have edited it. what i meant was that the motu must sync to the external embedded spdif clock in the bitstream.

The clocking is also embedded in the lightpipe signal.
