Expert Advice Needed: Master Word Clock Question

I’m working to get every last bang for my buck out of the Digi 003!

My signal path is as follows:
8 ADAT optical out > Lynx Aurora 8 > API summing system (also 8 Analog out > API summing system) > Apogee Rosetta 200 > back into the 003 via SPDIF RCA *simultaneously*

QUESTION:
Which device should be the master word clock and how best to configure it?

SO FAR:
I have two camps of thought and I’m looking for any others and/or verification of these two.

1.)Aurora is master > slaves the Rosetta 200 via the word clock cable while it slaves the 003 via ADAT optical in
2.)Rosetta 200 is master > slaves the Aurora via the word clock cable while it slaves the 003 via SPDIF RCA in

Any and all help is MUCH appreciated,
Thanks!

Best thing is to audition all the various ways yourself.

But it can be tricky to 'remember' a clock sound you just took down..

Its been said before that people can have 3 second 'goldfish like' memories for sound when doing side by side a/b comparisons..

And it can take way longer than 3 seconds to swap over a clocking configuration!

I like to try to rope in an extra pair of ears to join me when doing these sorts of comparisons, I find that can help...

Its good ear training stuff..

You will be looking for things like..

Depth of sound
Width of sound
Audibility of sub bass
Audibility of reverb decays
Quality of mid range
High frequency extension..

Good luck! Let us know how you get on!

With the 003 specifically I've had more luck clocking from S/PDIF than from lightpipe. Pro tools seems to lose sync when I clock from ADAT, but there could be other variables I'm not considering. Go with what's more stable, if they both work out then go with what you think sounds best.
