Multi Mono or stereo In Pro Tools?

Has anyone heard a difference? I noticed that when using the multi mono plugin your basicly using two plugins. Is there more width or better sound or will they phase out when tested. I'll try it myself later today but, just wanted to know if anyone here has done this already to save me the testing time.

Thanx

I have heard a difference, but I find it negligible... but it can help or hurt depending on the source so you really have to try both and decide on a case by case basis if you're into that much.

I'm not.

There can be a big difference, esp. when using compressors.
I believe you get a bigger soundstage in general, but it
uses too much horsepower.

Maybe a reason why MDW only runs in multi mono....

Well yes, when it comes to compression of course it makes a huge difference. I don't think EQ needs to be linked does it? The phase is what it is due to the nature of the filter, I thought.

What I'm talking about is a difference in sound with faders at 0, no plugins no panpot (i.e. left side set to mono out 1 and right to mono out 2 or what have you)

Anyone else experiment with this?

I wasn't sure so I did a quick test myself (5 to 10min) that ended up being a 20 to30min test.
I did it with the Analog Channel, Digi's 4band EQ. I'm going to try a few others as well. I'm getting a friends iLok as he wants to try it on some of his plugins as well to see which ones null out.
Anyway, with the Analog Channel I imported a stereo file and dup'ed it on two other tracks.
Then I put the Analog Channel on one of the channels in stereo and the other in multi-mono.
I then bounced down both seperate and imported them back in.
I then used the invert audiosuite on one of them and played them back.
They did not null out at all.
Then I undid the invert and put two trim plugins on them and put one plugin out of phase. And again they did not null out.

So, I did the same thing again but with the analog channels in mute. After importing both of the audio tracks back and did the test they both nulled out.

So then I did the same test with 4 Band EQ (Digi) and they both nulled out.

My friend just dropped off his plugins so I'm going to try the Sony Oxford Compressor, I have the Inflator so I will try that one. Also try the Sony EQ and the Amp Farm as well as the Compressor Bank and Filter Bank as these are the most used plugins that I know of. Also these are the only ones I can get my hands on for now.
Since I have a little free time coming up why not.

Let ya know if you want.
Also if you have any idea's this is the time.

Thanx

The dynamic plugs (AC is a dynamic plug) in stero/multi will not null out.
I.e in multi mode a panned floor tom hit would reduce gain on the left side.
2 mono comps processing one channel each.
A stereo comp can behave more balanced (and boring sometimes?)

You don“t need to bounce, just insert a eq plug-in ( that nuls )for fliping the phase.
