Couple points...Macs do NOT use the same hardware. EFI rather than BIOS on the main board...and to the next point-same hardware getting two different measurements--because drivers and driver models are different for different OSs, and they are what interfaces between OS and hardware. Neither of these are here nor there... But, I will point out that my machine had super low dpc for years...and had issues with a new piece of software. Support dept had me update drivers--now, it's all over the place. Gonna have to reburn it. Original driver sets. None of their suggestions fixed their bug anyway--just pooched my machine for everything else. So, while there may be some sets of hardware that don't work well, it's more about drivers/OS, IME.

I am having the same problems, 800 - 2000 spikes every 30 seconds! But, I'm using XP/Bootcamp/MBP. Can't seem to locate it. For now recording with reaper on mac OS. I would like to record using XP, but for now it's an experiment. A very frustrating one at that. If anyone has had similar problems, please contact me.

Try removing USB/FireWire devices one by one & see if it stops. Then try killing any programs running in the system tray. Then find one of those tutorials for removing/disabling non-essential services. If that doesn't do it, reinstall XP. XP can get pretty gummed up over time, I reinstall at least a couple times a year on my one machine that is still running XP.

| If it is still relevant: if you have a Windows code (usually at the back/bottom of the system), loan a retail Windows disk of the version which your code licenses. Do a clean install.

PROBLEM SOLVED! I created an account just to let you know how I fixed it on my laptop. I have had huge problems with my Dell E6410 laptop. Running Windows 7 (32 bit). I even had times where it ran at about 2000 milli seconds with spikes as much as 16000 milli seconds. I pulled my hair because I produce music on this computer. I got dropouts all time. sometimes I got lucky and had a whole minute without a dropout :D I have read numerous threads on the issue. Tried so much crap. In the end I fixed it. Here is what I did: First: A fresh install of windows. After a couple of windows updates it started. I uninstalled every single windows update and turned automatic updating OFF. (I am not letting windows do any updates). IMPORTANT: Then I checked Device Manager for duplicate drivers. I found two drivers for my sound and some duplicates for mice and such. Deleted the dupes.. now my dpc latency runs at about 100 - 200. spikes at occasional 600. no problem. NO dropouts. I hope that was helpful. here is another tip: to find recommended drivers (On demand) dont use Windows to update your drivers. Use a program called Driver Max. highly recommended. |

Nice that it is working but I hope your not connected to the net with that PC (using credit card or banking info) as some of those updates fix serious loopholes and cracks In code that malware and malicous sites search for even just by connecting to them.
