A friend of mine was at one of his friends studio yesterday and told me, this friend

A friend of mine was at one of his friends studio yesterday and told me, this friend was creating depth in a mix with the wavve s1 stereo imager. Reverb wouldn't do what the imager could in the context of electronic music. He had to pull the volume up real loud but then he could hear a sound come nearer or getting a bit in the back when adjusting the width parameter.
I tried it with the free Flux Stereo Tool, but nothing changed in my mix. As far as I know these stereo imagers only adjust the left, right, mid and side volumes of a stereo signal, so I don't know where the magic could come from.
Does anybody know anything about this?

Bad room monitoring probably. S1 is just a phase based width tool - can make things come from outside the speakers, at the expense of mono compatibility and centre image stability.

Thats what I think. Even he he used stereo drum samples I can't understand how you could move them nearer or away from you.

Waves S1 does M/S, changes mid and side tracking of the stereo sounds.
