Does the "Mix" function on compression plugins equal parallel compression?

My novice impression is that the "Mix" function on certain compression plugins can serve the same purpose as parallel compression. Some comp plugins like PSP Vintage Warmer have a mix knob which blends the processed and dry signals like an effect. Can this function cover the same ground as say, the old trick of multing a drum group and tucking in a compressed version under the dry one? Seems quicker and easier to just "mix," if so.

Thanks!
Max

hmmmm

well, yes and no. it will do what you ask, but i think the delay compensation feature will not be of any use if there is a timing problem, since it is all on the same tracks.

if only more compressors (hardware and virtual) had a mix knob, it'd save a lot of extra routing for setting up all those parallel compression tracks. would be great!

Maybe you are already aware of it, but COMPADRE beatpuncher (VST/PC) has a "mix" control for this exact purpose.
More info can be found here: http://www.otiumfx.com/compadre.php

It's one of the reasons I rate the PSP plugins so highly! I LOVE that they have the mix function as it saves having to setup more than one buss group!
I wish more plugins would have it...

(hit submit too quick...)

VintageWarmer is great, but you should also check out the MixPack for the MixPressor. This also has the mix/parallel/blend feature and is a very cool comp to boot. I use MixPressor and VW quite a lot, a lot is to do with the mix function which I find invaluable on the buss.
It just lets you maintain your dynamics well. You get to have and eat your cake...
